LONDON — Dave Wooster, FOH engineer for Leona Lewis (and Sennheiser UK’s Live Sound Specialist) supported her performance at Annabel’s, a members-only club in London’s Mayfair district with a setup that included a K-array KR200S sound system.

44 Berkley Square is the prestigious address of Annabel’s; one of London’s top private members clubs which has been a cornerstone of trendy London from the day it was inaugurated on June 4th 1963. Located in the hip Mayfair district, it was named after Lady Annabel Vane-Tempest-Stewart, daughter of Londonderry’s Marquise and wife of Mark Birley, a prominent businessman. Over the years, it has enjoyed the presence of patrons such as Nixon and some members of the Kennedy family, artists like Frank Sinatra and the Rolling Stones and the Royal family. Sarah, the Duchess of York, threw a masquerade birthday party where the notorious police officer was Lady D. herself.
Timeless elegance has kept Annabel’s one of today‘s hottest, liveliest and most transgressive clubs.
On September 12, Leona Lewis gave a memorable performance to an awestruck audience. Keeping up with its reputation, Annabel’s had to have top notch audio sound. Dave Wooster, who is Leona’s front of house engineer and Sennheiser UK‘s Live Sound Specialist, chose a K-array KR200S: a system that is sleek and discreet but that delivers a powerful sound that truly renders the singers voice in addition to coping with the very low ceiling and compact nature of the venue.
“From my perspective, the system was perfect not only because of the slim design but also because it fit in perfectly with the expectations of a very demanding audience” Dave explained. “Leona’s voice carried through the room, along with back-up vocals, piano, acoustic guitar and the cello: the harmony was perfectly captured by the sophistication of the KR200S”.
Steve White, from Patchwork London, Annabel’s audio equipment provider stated “We were blown away by the KR200S even before we found out such an amazing sound came from such a compact system”. It’s not by chance that for Leona’s appearance Steve hired the KR200s from Capital Sound, a London-based audio rental company but he was so impressed he decided to purchase a system for Patchwork.“ KR200S is ideal because it gives us the impressive sound we need without taking away from the visual impact of what’s going on stage.” The system has also been used for such big names as Beverly Knight, Paloma Faith and Paolo Nutini.
“Before the show with Paolo we were interested to see how it would cope with a drum kit, and we were really impressed. The definition and punch is what you would expect from a far larger PA.
The KR200S exceeded expectations from both a technical perspective and fit it perfectly with Patchwork London’s motto: “As a small company we need to punch above our weight; keeping quality high at the same time as being efficient is crucial.” K-array gets it right every time.”
