HERNE, GERMANY – This year saw the third edition of “Feuerabend” (translates as Evening of Fire) in Herne, Germany. Involved from the start were MMT Veranstaltungstechnik GmbH from Herne and the ProAudio Technology sound systems. As the number of visitors has grown significantly over the last three years, the PA systems were continuously adapted to the requirements.

This year, the concert stage was equipped not only with front-firing speakers, but also with additional rear- and sidefills. The front PA was built with one 2 x 6 VT20 array plus 12 VS18. The nearfield used two MT12 and for the sidefills MT12, HT16 and SW18. Four 20.4-DSP system amplifiers were driving all systems in front of, beside and behind the stage.
The sound engineers in charge were amazed at how detailed the VT20 system sounded at the FOH from a distance of 52 meters (171 ft.).
Just like in 2015, two arrays of eight VT20 elements each plus one subarray of eight VS28 were used for the accompaniment of the musical fireworks. The peripheral zones to the left and right of the VT20 arrays were covered by HT16 tops. The VT20 system was powered by 20.4-DSP and the two HT16 by a 6.2-DSP.
Says Florian Kempin on the sound concept at the event: “Quite simply, the black boxes from ProAudio Technology are fun to use. It starts already with the setup. Everything’s mounted on dollies and you won’t have to carry a single speaker. The subs are rolled straight out of the truck into their position, just pull the brakes – ready. VT20 tops are pre-angled in the dolly, get them up, next dolly beneath and you’re ready. Subs and tops with reversible sockets save 50 percent of wiring and make the setup and deconstruction even faster. In terms of handling and performance the material from ProAT can’t be beaten.”
