PLASA 2021 was hailed as a triumph by all who attended, visitors and exhibitors alike, not least by British loudspeaker company, EM Acoustics, who were thrilled to walk away with a coveted PLASA Innovation Award for their new Reference Series R10 loudspeaker.
“PLASA was a great success for us – as it always is – but this year was particularly special under the circumstances,” says operations director, Mike Wheeler. “Even though the show was understandably smaller than the last time it was held in 2019, it’s the first time that any of us have witnessed an industry gathering of this size since the first lockdown, and it was clear that everyone was delighted to be there. The place was buzzing and it was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with people we’d not seen in a long time. It was also the very first opportunity we’ve had to showcase our complete Reference Series range with all three models – and we’re even more delighted that the R10 was honoured with a PLASA Innovation Award!”
Reference Series represents the ultimate no-compromise solution for point source applications requiring ultra-high quality sound reinforcement in a versatile, low profile package. Available now in 8-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch versions, Reference Series loudspeakers are distinguished by their unique interchangeable waveguide options supplied as standard and an entirely new approach to crossover design that marries the components together. In bestowing a PLASA Innovation Award on the R10, the judges commended its controllable, adjustable low-mid dispersion, adding that the inclusion of the different high-medium frequency flares increases the flexibility for a touring show and is a feature that has not been seen before in a speaker of this type.
“Winning this award was the cherry on the PLASA cake,” continues Wheeler. “It was truly gratifying to see R10 recompensed by such a qualified and diverse panel of our industry peers. We’d already had an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the industry, and even more so with the addition of the R8 and R12, but formal industry recognition always has a positive impact. We’re already looking forward to the next PLASA event in Leeds next May.”
