FRANKFURT, Germany — Yamaha, JBL, Sennheiser, Midas, Avid and PreSonus were among the gear brands in the winner’s circle at the 2012 MIPA awards presented at Musikmesse here late last month. Here’s a quick recap of the categories, sub-categories, nominees and winning products most relevant for live sound applications.
In the Pro Audio categories, nominees and winners were recognized in categories including Portable Sound, PA System, Live Microphone/IEM/Wireless Systems, Sound System Technologies and Live Mixing Desk.
In the Portable Sound category, nominees included Bose L1 Model II, Dynacord Corus-Evolution and the Yamaha DXR DXS series. The winning company: Yamaha.
In the PA System category, the nominees included JBL VTX, L-Acoustics K1 and Outline GTO. JBL won.
In the Live Microphone / IEM / Wireless Systems category, nominees included MXL Live Series, Sennheiser SK5212 and Shure PSM 1000. Sennheiser won.
In the Sound System Technologies category, nominees included Harman HiQNet Performance Manager, Yamaha StageMix / iPad and Allen & Heath iLive Mix Pad / iPad. Yamaha won.
In the Mixing Desk (Live) category, nominees included Allen & Heath GLD, DiGiCo SD10 and Midas PRO2. Midas won.
Over in the Studio category, prizes were awarded for Recording Software and Mixing Desk (Project Studio) categories, among others. Within the Recording Software category, nominees included Avid Pro Tools 10, MOTU Digital Performer 8 and Steinberg Cubase 6. Avid won.
In the Mixing Desk (Project Studio) category, nominees included Focusrite Control 2802, PreSonus StudioLive and Yamaha 01V96i. PreSonus won.
