AUSTIN – The British Music Embassy (BME) returned to SXSW for its 32nd edition with its most ambitious showcase to date, hosted for the first time at the Palm Door on Sixth. Liberty Hill, TX based production company Fidelis Sound & Lighting, provided dBTechnologies systems for every BME performance and panel.

Also seen throughout BME were Allen & Heath’s consoles, which supported both the indoor and outdoor stage areas at the event as up-and-coming British talent performed alongside various corporate activations and immersive listening experiences.

Over the course of seven days, BME welcomed 72 UK artists for 42 hours of genre-spanning live music. Curated by the British Music Council and led on the ground by production manager Ant Forbes, the supporting crew included six students from the Academy of Live Technology who provided an assist while gaining real-world experience alongside seasoned sound engineers.

BME performances included Sam Ryder who delivered his hit single, “Mountain,” to a packed audience. Others included Beth McCarthy singing “She Gets the Flowers,” Steam Down’s jazz-fueled improvisation and an emotionally charged set by Big Special fusing punk, spoken word and soul-driven intensity.

Andy Tindall, dBTechnologies’ applications engineer, helped with system design and tuning for the speaker system which included VIO X series and FMX series enclosures. For the Outdoor Stage, which featured a networked dLive rig at FOH and monitors, the setup included FMX15 powered monitor wedges. Indoors, an Avantis held down mix duties for more intimate and experiential happenings.

The UK House Speaking area had two VIO X205s on tripods complemented by a single Sub915 subwoofer for the low end. There, along with the immersive “Stay & Play” tech activations, there were talks on topics ranging from advertising ethics, women in immersive tech and the future of entertainment.
