In Memoriam: Bruce Robbins, 59

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Bruce Robbins, 59, a longtime sound man whose career in audio spanned more than 25 years, died in April after battling an extended illness. Alerted by those who reported him missing, police found him deceased in his New Rochelle home on April 22. Friends held a memorial in Robbins’ honor at Dudley’s Parkview in New Rochelle on May 10. They toasted the life of a man who, while choosing a solitary lifestyle, excelled in his craft and treated all those he worked with — from established stars to struggling artists — with equal measures of professionalism and respect.

Ronnie Scott’s Hits the Sweet Spot with Autograph and DiGiCo

LONDON – The original Ronnie Scott’s opened its doors in October 1959 as a small basement club where local musicians could jam with others who shared their passion. Almost six decades later, and in its Soho home, Ronnie Scott’s is one of the world’s best-known jazz clubs, regularly hosting the genre’s biggest names as well as nurturing rising stars. A recent upgrade of the club’s technical facilities has seen the installation of a custom digital audio network plus two DiGiCo consoles, with the system design, supply and installation all carried out by Autograph Sales & Installations.

VUE Audiotechnik Puts a New Spin on Ride Delray

DELRAY BEACH, FL – Ride Delray Indoor Cycling Studio is an upscale, low-attitude cycling and fitness studio featuring instructors specifically trained in Stages Power metered bikes. As part of a recent renovation, the facility installed new lighting, video and an audio system centered on i-Class loudspeakers from VUE Audiotechnik. Ride Delray’s 1,000 square-foot studio previously employed a home-grade hifi-type sound system. Jay Krause of Sound & Lighting Solution Inc. said all of the loudspeakers in the venue are VUE, using a total of 14 VUE i-2×4.5 and two is-26a powered subwoofers for the installation.

Florida Church Upgrades with Allen & Heath dLive System

JUPITER, FL — Grace Immanuel Bible Church recently acquired an Allen & Heath S7000 digital mixer with a DM64 MixRack and DX32 Expander to support its worship services and special programs. Dan Kreider, Grace Immanuel’s minister of music, noted that the upgrade was necessary. The church’s special services often include a 12-voice mixed ensemble and an orchestra, with as many as 78 sources needed. Kreider credited the new setup for being flexible to use and easy to learn.

Powersoft, EAW Power Lyon’s New Stadium

LYON, France  – The new Parc Olympique Lyonnais (Parc OL) has ensured that its 59,000 capacity stadium will be served by pristine, broadcast quality audio by installing Powersoft’s Ottocanali multi-channel amplifiers and EAW’s high output, point source QX loudspeakers. The Lyon venue is preparing to be the main host for a major sports tournament this summer.

dLive Shines in All-Star Concert in China

ZHEJIANG PROVINCE, China – Allen & Heath’s dLive digital mixing system was recently employed at FOH for a concert at the 30,000-seat Jinhua stadium, Zhejiang Province in China, to promote the cultural relationship between Kyrgyzsta and China. The  line-up included several top artists from both countries, including Asian super stars Jay Chou, Wilber Pan, Xie Tianxiao and Elva Hsiao. Managed by PA company, Shanghai Jiexin Entertainment Equipment Co. Ltd., the production was technically complex, featuring the latest in stage, lighting and sound systems.

INDIO, CA —Taking the spotlight at one of the hottest festivals of the year, a JBL Professional by Harman sound system was selected for the Yuma Tent at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, CA. Thumping away from festival open to close with some of the world’s premier DJs, the Yuma Tent’s purpose was to recreate the intimate and hi-fidelity experience of being in a high-end nightclub, but with a sound system that could deliver the experience at high SPL in a 150-foot-wide tent. With this goal in mind, sound designer George Stavro, owner and head designer of Sonic Lab Audio and Integral Sound, specifically chose a JBL VTX system for the Yuma Tent.
