LAS VEGAS – During the recent InfoComm Show in Las Vegas, PreSonus Audio Electronics and its WorxAudio Technologies loudspeaker division recognized two key AV integrator companies for their exceptional efforts. The PreSonus Commercial Systems Integrator of the Year and the WorxAudio Systems Integrator of the Year awards were presented June 7 in the PreSonus/WorxAudio demo room prior to the opening of the InfoComm show’s exhibits.

CLEVELAND, OH – Eighth Day Sound is handling audio production for the North American leg of Ellie Goulding’s Delirium World Tour. Their gear includes a full complement of DiGiCo mixing consoles—an SD5 at front-of-house with FOH engineer Joe Harling, and an SD10 available for opening acts, and an SD7 at the monitor position with Mike Flaherty, monitor engineer.

Northwestern U Music Fest Nexo’d Out

EVANSTON, IL — Armadillo Day began in 1972 when the Northwestern University Texans held a small celebration in honor of the official mammal of their home state. More than 40 years later, Dillo Day is one of the largest student-run music festivals in the nation, hosted at the Northwestern Lakefill on the shore of Lake Michigan. Nationally and locally known artists play on two stages; this year’s entertainment for the approximately 10,000 attendees included The Mowgli’s, Schoolboy Q, Cashmere Cat, Dial Up, DJ Hayden James, and Derek Carter, among others. Sound Works Productions, Inc. of Mokena, IL brought in Nexo line array systems for the two festival stages.

In Memoriam: Bob Sterne, 1943 – 2016

PORTLAND, OR — Audio pioneer Bob Sterne, founder of Northwest Sound, who was also a longtime tour manager and sound mixer for Neil Young and sound coordinator for many Super Bowls, died June 9, 2016. He was 73. Sterne is pictured here mixing at FOH for a Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young concert on the band’s 1974 Reunion Tour, at the Atlantic City Race Course (August 9, 1974).

Arena Zabrze Chooses Community for Entertainment and Safety

SILESIA, Poland – The Arena Zabrze stadium has recently undergone complete redevelopment, with substantial renovation of the exterior structure and spectator stands, including a new sound system. Supplied by Tommex Żebrowscy Sp. J. and installed by Integra s.c., the system for Arena Zabrze is based on Dynacord electronics and Community R Series loudspeakers. The system provides audio for public address and entertainment with integrated voice alarm, and covers the spectator stands, playing field and the interior of the stadium’s infrastructure. Audio source selection and control are provided from both the commentary and fire officer’s locations.

Drop Ship Audio Dances with Calrec

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles-based boutique rental house Drop Ship Audio has fitted their newest flypack with a Calrec Summa to cover auditions and callbacks for reality-TV dance competition “So You Think You Can Dance.” “As a small rental house, it’s great to be able to offer a Calrec, not only because of the prestige behind the name, but also because Calrec desks are in the majority of OB trucks in the U.S., most of our rental customers already know how to use them,” said Sean Prickett, owner of Drop Ship Audio and A1 for the show’s auditions. “Calrec has done a great job of making sure the user interface and operation are the same across all its desks, so it’s easy for any engineer to jump on the Summa and go.”

Martin Audio Covers Three Stages at BottleRock 2016

NAPA, CA — To ensure consistent coverage and minimize off-site noise at BottleRock 2016, Delicate Productions relied on Martin Audio speaker systems. The setup included an MLA system at the Main (Jam Cellars) stage with more Martin Audio gear used at Stage 2 (Midway) and for the culinary stage at the festival. This was Delicate’s fourth year of doing audio for BottleRock. GM George Edwards credited the Martin Audio components for “great” sound quality and noise compliance.

Sennheiser Sales Hit All-Time High

WEDEMARK, Germany – The Sennheiser Group, which published its annual results on June 13, reported a successful fiscal year 2015 with record sales, strong growth in key regions and numerous new products.  Total sales rose by 7.5 percent to €682.2 million. Across all global regions, the company’s sales developed significantly, particularly in the Americas and APAC (Asia and Australia). Profit before taxes in 2015 amounted to €30.3 million.

LAS VEGAS – The Foundry is a 2,000 capacity concert venue inside the SLS Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Its odd but impressive layout – three stories tall, far wider than deep with two of the three main bars flanking the spacious stage at a considerable distance – makes for challenging sound reinforcement. JR Sound Company took on the project, going with a Danley Sound Labs solution.
