In Memoriam: Jack Shearing, 87

LOS ANGELES – John “Jack” Shearing, a prominent Broadway sound designer, owner of Masque Sound, and father of current Masque Sound president Geoff Shearing, died December 3, 2017 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 87. Jack Shearing was the son of John Shearing, a Broadway head carpenter, who co-founded Masque Sound and Recording. In addition to expanding Masque Sound, Jack Shearing designed sound for such major Broadway productions in the late 1970s and early 1980s as Grease, Two Gentlemen of Verona and No No Nanette.

In Memoriam: Jason Browning, 46

COLUMBUS, OH – Jason Browning, a longtime tour manager for bands including Matchbox Twenty, Stone Temple Pilots and others, died on Dec. 26, 2017. He was 46. A native of Columbus, OH, Browning attended Thomas Worthington High School (Worthington, OH) and Columbus State Community College before getting his start in the entertainment industry working security for artists including Hanson, Marilyn Manson and Rob Thomas.

Liberty University and Thomas Road Baptist Church Upgrade with DiGiCo

LYNCHBURG, VA – Liberty University and Thomas Road Baptist Church recently replaced their entire system of consoles with DiGiCo SD Series desks. Liberty University’s expanded School of Music installed a DiGiCo SD5 and SD10 for FOH and monitor mixing in the building’s performance hall, and added a DiGiCo SD11 in the department’s mixing lab. At Thomas Road Baptist Church, two DiGiCo SD10 consoles now serve as the FOH and monitor mix platforms in the 6,000-seat sanctuary, which opened in 2016. Pro Sound & Video of Pensacola, FL provided all the desks.

L-Acoustics Brings Modern Voice to Historic Loew’s Wonder Theater

NEW YORK – United Palace, one of the five “Wonder Theater” movie palaces designed by Loew’s, now serves as a church, live music venue and non-profit cultural center. The venue, located at West 175th Street and Broadway in upper Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood, is now owned by the United Christian Evangelistic Association. In September, Boston-based Audio Spectrum installed an L-Acoustics system that includes 20 K2, six K1-SB, eight SB28, four X8 coaxials and 12 LA8 amplified controllers to power them all.
