Industry Leaders Launch AVB-based Milan Network Protocol for Pro AV Interoperability

LAS VEGAS – At InfoComm 2018, major pro AV manufacturers and industry leaders, working together as part of the AVNU Alliance, announced Milan, a new standards-based protocol supporting interoperability that builds on IEEE Audio Video Bridging (AVB) open standards. Milan is designed to serve as a user-driven protocol for pro media, with the promise that all Milan devices will work together for user convenience, reliability and functionality.

L-Acoustics Brings Nice Sound to “Mean Girls”

NEW YORK – For the Broadway adaptation of Tina Fey’s 2004 film, Mean Girls, sound designer Brian Ronan and his associate, Cody Spencer crafted a sound system within the challenging environs of the August Wilson Theatre that centered on L-Acoustics’ Kiva II, Kara, and dV-DOSC components. The production earned 12 Tony Award nominations, including a nomination for Best Sound Design for a Musical. Masque Sound supplied the gear.

CODA Audio USA Welcomes New Partners at InfoComm 2018

LAS VEGAS – CODA Audio USA, a subsidiary of CODA Audio GmbH, held its inaugural U.S. rep meeting on June 5 during InfoComm 2018 and announced its latest alliances. Mac West, headed by Steve McNeil, will look after Southern California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii, while Cowser Marketing, led by Jim Cowser, will be responsible for Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Southern Arkansas. Jeff Taylor, the company’s recently-appointed sales director, will also be working with Donn Nelson, president at Pro Media REP, and Quest Marketing, led by John Saviano, to expand the audio brand’s reach into the Midwest and Southeast U.S. market.

McLean Bible Church Goes IP with Lawo Mixing and Routing Systems

VIENNA, VA – McLean Bible Church (MBC) recently purchased and installed Lawo mc² audio consoles and a Nova central routing system to upgrade their Tysons Campus facility in greater Washington, DC. On any given weekend, MBC regularly hosts a full band, singers, worship leaders, an orchestra, choir and various audio playback elements and broadcast feeds to other campuses around DC. Sound Designers Honored with Tony Awards Again at 72nd Ceremony

NEW YORK – The 72nd annual Tony Awards, honoring Broadway musicals and plays staged during the 2017-2018 season, was held June 10 at Radio City Music Hall, hosted by Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles and broadcast live on CBS. Top award winners included The Band’s Visit (10), Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (6) and Angels in America (3). The 2018 event restored Sound Design as a Tony Award category for musicals and plays, honoring Kai Harada and Gareth Fry, respectively, for their contributions to The Band’s Visit and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two.
