In Memoriam: Mike Cooper, 70

AUSTIN, TX — Sound engineer and longtime Meyer Sound exec Mike Cooper passed away Aug. 15 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 70. Starting out as a bass and guitar player, Cooper performed at Austin’s Armadillo Club before mixing sound there early in his career. He then hit the road as a monitor engineer for Styx in 1983, and joined Meyer Sound in 1995. A memorial gathering is planned at Threadgills in Austin on Oct. 14.

LAS VEGAS – Nominations are now being accepted for the next Parnelli Awards ceremony, to be held at the Anaheim Hilton in Anaheim, CA on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019. Anyone can go to the ParnelliAwards.com site and nominate live event professionals and companies who exemplify the best of the best in our industry. The deadline for Parnelli nominations is Oct. 19, 5 p.m. PST. After the nominations are in, the Parnelli Ballot will be posted in early November and voting will begin.

Riedel Opens Office in Beijing

BEIJING – Riedel Communications announced it will open a new office in Beijing, China. The China office is Riedel’s fourth Asia-Pacific sales hub, following on the successful launches of the company’s Australian, Japanese, and Singaporean branches. The Beijing office is located in the Chaoyang District and will be led by Ms. Gao Jian, Riedel’s new Regional Sales Manager for China.
