Accident During Load-In Kills Tour Manager, Singer in U.K.

GUILDFORD, U.K. — The tour manager and one of the 10 singers for Fisherman’s Friends, a male vocal group, died from injuries caused by a falling steel loading dock door at the G Live venue here. Tour manager Paul McMullen, 44, died at the scene of the freakish accident, which occurred during the mid-day load-in for a performance Feb. 9. The show was cancelled. Singer Trevor Grills, 54, was also pinned by the heavy steel door. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries Feb. 11.

ANAHEIM, CA – The old song might say “It never rains in Southern California,” but this time it did — but only sporadically and hardly enough to dampen the spirits of the 100,000 or so attendees at the Winter NAMM show from January 24 to 28. In fact, the mood at this year’s expo carried a decidedly good vibe. With the memories of 2008’s near-depression and 2012’s year-end “fiscal cliff” thankfully becoming a distant memory, the M.I. and pro industries seemed ready to get back to business. And there seemed to be plenty of business, with a feeling of optimism in the air and from the strong turnout of interested buyers and serious attendees, a sense that good times lie ahead.

LOS ANGELES — Audio-Technica provided more than 250 mics for a wide selection of artists from various genres of music for the live show and broadcast of the 55th Annual Grammys, held Feb. 10 at the Staples Center. The A-T roster included a wide array of hard-wired mics and Artist Elite 5000 Series UHF Wireless Systems.

AVnu Alliance Opens Bridge Certification; Adds 50th Member

BEAVERTON, OR — The AVnu Alliance, which certifies Audio Video Bridging (AVB) products for interoperability, has launched certification testing for AVB-enabled networking bridges at its appointed testing house, the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL). AVnu Certification is available to Alliance member companies. The AVnu Alliance also recently added its 50th member, Palo Alto-based Symphony Teleca Corporation (STC).
