Grammy Awards Performers Rely on Shure PSM1000, Axient and UHF-R Wireless Systems

LOS ANGELES — As with last year’s ceremony, all of the artists and bands who performed using in-ear monitors during the 55th Annual Grammy Awards at Staples Center here Feb. 10 used the Shure PSM1000 Personal Monitor System. This year’s list of IEM-using performers included Mumford & Sons, Rihanna, Maroon 5, Carrie Underwood, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and Taylor Swift (pictured here).

Grammys Get Assist from Sennheiser Mics, Wireless Gear

LOS ANGELES — Bruno Mars (pictured here), Sting, Zac Brown, Miranda Lambert, Alicia Keys and Ed Sheeran got an assist from Sennheiser mics and wireless gear for their performances at the 55th Grammy Awards, held at Staples Center here Feb. 10. Sennheiser endorsees Zac Brown Band and Adele won Grammys for Best Country Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.

Delicate Productions Provides Martin Audio MLA for Killers Tour

CHICAGO — Picking up for Capital Sound, which had supported The Killers tour stops in the U.K., Delicate Productions provided a Martin Audio MLA system for the band in the U.S. Along with the usual challenges in optimizing the sound within venues ranging from mid-sized arenas to small theaters, casinos and ballrooms, which the MLA system helped tackle, the Camarillo, CA-based production company had to contend with cancellations of major arena shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Toronto’s Air Canada Centre and New Jersey’s Susquehanna Bank Center due to lead singer Brandon Flowers’ laryngitis.

New RCF subs for Thunder Audio

Thunder Audio Expands Inventory with 34 RCF Subs

LIVONIA, MI — Thunder Audio, headquartered here, recently added 34 RCF subwoofers to their production inventory. The additional gear includes 24 TTS56-A (double-21) subwoofers, eight TTL36-AS (double-18) flyable active subwoofers and two TTS28-A (double-18) active subs, noted Thunder Audio owner Tony Villarreal. The new gear has already been deployed for events featuring Skrillex, Metallica and others.

Midas Consoles Support Blondie and Devo Tour

CHICAGO — For their 2012 Whip It to Shreds co-headlining tour of North America, Blondie and Devo were mixed on a Midas PRO6 at FOH and a PRO2C console at monitors. Production manager Jim Roese of New Hampshire-based RPM Dynamics, who specified the gear, also supported the tour as monitor engineer. Roese was joined by FOH engineers Rod Nielsen (Blondie) and Paul David Hager (Devo) along with Devo monitor engineer Adam Beck-Slaten.
