SEATTLE — Flamingo Audio Owner Brad Walker comes from a music recording background, and his company still does plenty of that at their Seattle-area facility. But their real bread and butter these days comes from systems installation and live sound.

Carl Massano, creative director at SKB Corporation, passed away on Dec. 2, 2009 after a lengthy illness.  A graduate of Queens College, CUNY, Massano founded Massano Design with his wife, Carolyn, where he began producing graphics for SKB Corporation. In 1992, SKB acquired Massano Design.

APOPKA, FL — Jerry Harvey, a designer of personal monitors who had his beginnings with Van Halen and established Ultimate Ears, may have founded a new company in 2007, JH Audio, that dealt with aviation headsets. But Harvey, a pilot since 2003, is circling back to the world of live sound.

SALT LAKE CITY —The Harman Music Group promoted Craig Paller from vice president, domestic sales, to group-wide vice president, worldwide sales. Paller will be responsible for strategic planning and sales initiatives for BSS Audio, dbx Professional, DigiTech and Lexicon Professional.

BALTIMORE — The Church of the Redeemer, which dates from 1858, features soaring ceilings and ornate wood and glass. Like other 19th century structures, it can take your breath away — but it can also hinder intelligibility and musical performances for listeners in the back pews with a reverb of well over a second.

ATLANTA —  Turner Field, home to the Atlanta Braves, was updated for its most recent season with more than 400 weatherproof Danley loudspeakers. The speakers featured customized rigging and coverage patterns to fit in the old speakers’ positions.

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA — Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, the country music duo called Sugarland, have been touring North America with their band, using more than three-dozen channels of Sennheiser wireless vocal microphone, personal monitor and instrument systems.

SAN DIEGO — The Old Globe theater produces 15 plays and musicals on its three stages each year and is currently hosting Sammy, based upon the life of Sammy Davis, Jr. John Shivers and David Patridge designed the production’s sound.

BOSTON — The Boston Park Plaza Hotel and Towers, a landmark since the Roaring Twenties, has been inducted as a member of the Historic Hotels of America. But the sound system used for its six sizable ballrooms was a source of frustration to the hotel staff.

PHILADELPHIA — Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, recently enhanced its sound system with custom loudspeakers from EAW. Coffeen Fricke and Associates, Inc. chose the EAW gear, which was sold by Audio Associates. The Large Projects Group of the A/V integration company AVI-SPL performed the installation.

ATLANTA — For nearly a decade, The Catalyst Conference has been inspiring and guiding the next generation of church leaders. From 1,500 attendees in its first year, the annual event has grown, and a capacity crowd of over 13,000 packed the Gwinnett Arena for this year’s two-day event.
