CHICAGO – Chicago State University (CSU) hired concert sound provider and systems integrator Sound Of Authority to install an L-Acoustics KUDO loudspeaker system into its Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center, a 5,500-seat multipurpose arena that hosts CSU Cougars basketball games, concerts, conferences and other events.

LOS ANGELES – JBL Professional loudspeakers were once again used for the Grammy Awards, held at the Staples Center Feb. 13. The 53rd annual ceremony was broadcast live in HDTV and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS Television Network. ATK Audiotek once again provided JBL VerTec line arrays for live sound reinforcement, while JBL LSR studio monitors were used in the critical listening room for the telecast.

PUEBLO, CO – Unlike many other church installations, Crown of Life Church was a relatively new construction and didn't have the deep reverberation issues that tend to occur with older buildings. However, media director Dave Dauenhauer and pastor Mark Hayes are confirmed audiophiles, so installer Dan Keller of Dan Keller Audio Systems knew that he still needed to outfit the house of worship with a high-end system. PHILADELPHIA – The sound system at the main auditorium at Temple University's Temple Performing Arts Center was recently upgraded with Renkus-Heinz loudspeakers and subwoofers, part of the improvements budgeted for the space after it was certified as an Historical Building by the Philadelphia Historical Commission and designated a Landmark by the American Institute of Architects.

NEW BRITAIN, CT – CMI Sound System equipped New Britain Stadium, home of the Rock Cats baseball team, a minor league affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, with Community Professional Loudspeakers' R-Series all-weather loudspeakers.

LOS ANGELES – UK rental company Major Tom Ltd. is supporting Usher's OMG Tour with an all-Meyer Sound package built around 72 MILO line array loudspeakers and 40 700-HP subwoofers. The FOH engineer for the tour, touching ground at more than 50 large venues across North America, Europe and Australia, is Tim Colvard.

LOS ANGELES – The 53rd Annual Grammys at the Staples Center featured Barbra Streisand and Bruno Mars, pictured here. Audio-Technica reported that more than 150 of its hard-wired microphones and Artist Elite 5000 series UHF wireless systems were used by Streisand, Mars and others at the event, with mixers also relying on AT4050ST stereo condenser microphones. Shure also reported the use of its gear, from the opening tribute to Aretha Franklin at the top of the show to one of the last segments featuring Mick Jagger.
