Electric Zoo Festival Powers Up with d&b audiotechnik Systems

NEW YORK — The Electric Zoo Festival rocked Randall’s Island in the East River here over Labor Day weekend with wall-to-wall sound and light, growing from a total draw of 26,000 in its first year (2009) to more than 100,000 over three days in 2012. Sonic Lab Audio, Integral Sound and Eighth Day Sound supported the festival with d&b audiotechnik gear for all four stages.

Madonna MDNA Tour Mixed on DiGiCo SD7s

LOS ANGELES – Madonna’s MDNA Tour is drawing capacity crowds to stadiums around the world. The show features 11 musicians, 22 dancers, multiple costume changes, a novel staging and graphic design and an audio system from Eighth Day Sound that includes two DiGiCo SD7s at Front of House and another on monitors. The SD7 is a step up for monitor engineers Matt Napier and Sean Speuhler, who were using a D5T on Madonna’s previous Sticky & Sweet Tour.

Delicate Productions Stokes Train’s Latest Tour with MLA System, DiGiCo Consoles

SAN FRANCISCO — Train’s California 37 tour has been rolling along with gear provided by Delicate Productions, including Martin MLA system, DiGiCo SD10 consoles for FOH and monitors, Martin Audio 5.2 amplifiers and Sennheiser G3 IEM personal monitor systems. The tour crew included Train’s FOH engineer Rob Thomas and monitor engineer Rob Greene, along with system engineer Phil Reynolds and system techs Kenny Kaiser and Russ Cunningham.

PRG, Showtec Unify Operations, Shift Staff

ARMONK, NY — Production Resource Group, LLC (PRG) announced Sept. 27 the corporate structure of PRG in Germany has been changed — PRG and Showtec are now one company. PRG also announced management shifts as the operations under the formerly separate companies continue to merge. PRG first announced that it was acquiring Showtec in late March, 2011.

Pay and Health Care Disputes Lead to Orchestral Concert Cancellations

CHICAGO — Ticket holders arriving for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s performance on Sept. 22 were turned away as they learned that the musicians union called for a strike. The stalemate over pay and health benefits threatens scheduled concerts later this week, along with a tour to New York and Mexico in early October. The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra also canceled concerts through the end of September as the result of an ongoing pay and benefits dispute. The musicians there have been locked out since early September, effectively canceling the first full month of their 2012-2012 season.

MIAMI — Latin pop artists Marc Anthony, Chayanne, and Marco Antonio Solis teamed up for the 14-city GIGANT3S tour in August and September. FOH engineer Jose A. Rivera, Jr. used A-Designs HM2EQ HAMMER dual-channel tube equalizer and HM2 NAIL compressor/limiter across the stereo mix buss for the shows.

POITIERS, France — Futuroscope, a multimedia theme park, marked 25 years with a musical celebration that included an outdoor production of Dogora. Agora Audio mixed the event on an Innovason Eclipse console and used an Innovason Sy80 for monitors. Along with the consoles, Agora Audio provided the main P.A. and microphones (including 16 KM 184 D digital mics from Neumann) for the event.
