WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The first North American Entertainment Innovation Conference at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, sponsored by USITT, drew nearly 400 professionals and students Sept. 6-8 with hands-on sessions and workshops detailing new technologies. Meyer Sound teamed up with Broadway sound designer Tony Meola, pictured here. Meola worked with pros and students to fine-tune sound techniques using the sound bed from Wicked.

SAN CARLOS, CA — Audio Production Group, Inc. (A. P. G.) has been meeting the needs of its corporate clients, including those requiring laptop presentations in large, reverberant spaces, with Countryman Associates’ B2D Directional Lavaliere mic and Type 10S / Type 85S Stereo Dis. A recent case in point involved laptop presentations conducted during a town hall-style meeting in what Heller referred to as a “very live space.”

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Mastro’s steak and seafood house recently renovated the third floor of its North Canon Drive location here. Known as Mastro’s Penthouse, the upscale environs have been enhanced with an audio installation that includes Ashly Audio amplifiers with integrated Protea DSP processing by AV integrators Clean Media.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Joan And Sanford I. Weill Hall, at Sonoma State University’s Donald and Maureen Green Music Center, opened in late September with a piano recital by Lang Lang. The 1,400-seat concert hall’s rear wall can be opened to provide viewing and listening from outdoor lawn seating for about 5,000 additional patrons.  Auerbach Pollock Friedlander provided acoustic and theatrical consulting services for the project.

NEW YORK — For a corporate AV installation project that included a large multi-purpose meeting space along with 60 smaller conference rooms, Video Sonics CEO and founder Glenn Polly relied upon iLive gear from Allen & Heath. He noted that the ability to separate the I/O unit and the control surface “solved a lot of problems for my client.”

SAN FRANCISCO — AES is launching an app to keep attendees and others informed about the association’s 133^rd convention, set for Oct. 26-29 (conference) and Oct. 27-29 (exhibition).

CHARLOTTE, NC — ATK Audiotek supported the audio needs at the 2012 Democratic National Convention (DNC), held here in early September, with 474 of its Powersoft DIGAM K10 amplifiers. All had been upgraded all with DSP cards, and the upgraded gear, which gave the crew a new measure of control over processing, monitoring and other functionality using Powersoft’s Armonía Pro Audio Suite, was used for the first time at the convention, held within Time Warner Cable Arena.
