NASHVILLE — ATK Audiotek and Music Mix Mobile supported the 46th Annual Country Music Association (CMA) Awards, which was broadcast live on ABC from the Bridgestone Arena here Nov. 1. The crew included producers Tom Davis and Paul Sandweiss, FOH engineers Patrick Baltzell and Rick Shimer and monitor engineers Tom Pesa and Jason Spence, with M3’s John Harris and Jay Vicari handling the broadcast music mix. They relied upon microphones and wireless gear provided by Audio-Technica, Sennheiser and Shure.

GLENVIEW, IL — Frank Luppino Jr., founder of Marketing Insights, head of marketing for Seeburg, a music and vending equipment manufacturer, and an industry journalist who covered NAMM for Billboard Magazine in the 1940s before serving as Billboard’s associate publisher, died Nov. 10, 2012 at age 90.

PORTLAND, OR — Horne Audio, Inc. provided a Harman Soundcraft Si Compact 16 digital mixing console for a steampunk-themed event dubbed “The Music Experience.” Intel and MTV Iggy hosted the event, which took place on the Sternwheeler steamboat and featured performances by bands The Jezabels and Y La Bamba as the vessel cruised the Willamette River for hundreds of revelers dressed in “steampunk”-themed costumes.

GLEN ELLEN, CA — Sacramento Production Services provided a Martin Audio system for the annual Charity Fall Music Festival staged here by the B.R. Cohn Winery and Olive Oil Company. The speaker setup included W8LCs for the main hangs and side fills, W8LS subwoofers, W2s for front fill, WT3s for drum fill, LE12J stage monitors and W8Cs with S218X subs for side fill with Lab.gruppen PLM20Ks and Yamaha PM5Ds for power and control.

SAN JOSE, CA — The International Space Orchestra, comprised of space scientists, performed a concert called Ground Control: An Opera in Space. For that Sept. 13 event, and also for a film documentary covering it, Lectrosonics wireless gear played a key role.

LEXINGTON, KY — Pro Sound & Lights systems engineer Chris Naughton was able to accommodate an eleventh-hour change in plans for an audio install at Church of the Savior, based here. Additional processing and amplifier channels were required after the project was well underway. Naughton was able to make the additions without going over budget by using an eight-channel Ashly ne8250.pe amplifier with optional onboard Protea DSP processing.
