PAL Show Returns to Toronto for 2013

TORONTO – The Music Industries Association of Canada (MIAC) has announced the preliminary details for the 12th annual PAL Show. This year’s show will take place Sept. 8-9, 2013, at the International Centre in Toronto. Exhibits will feature the latest in recording, live sound, broadcast, contracting, video and lighting products and services. Both show days will feature educational seminars as well as networking events, industry approved training programs, show specials and live demonstrations.

Big Thrill Productions of Weatherford, TX and Athens, GA provided a Meyer Sound system based on M’elodie line array loudspeakers and 1100-LFC low-frequency control elements, chosen in part for their ability to adapt to varying room configurations.

Minnesota Church Bypasses Need for Acoustical Treatments with Bose RoomMatch System

BURNSVILLE, MN — Eden Baptist Church had been facing the prospect of a significant investment in acoustical treatments to improve the sound quality within its new sanctuary here. John Vegter, owner of AV integrator Quality Systems, suggested an alternate approach. The church opted for Bose RoomMatch RM7020 and RM9040 array modules, which minimized the need for pricey acoustical treatments.

Funshine Festival Draws 20,000; Main Stage Features NEXO STM Line Arrays

TAMPA, FL — More than 30 acts performed during Funshine Fest from May 3-5, including Train, the Smashing Pumpkins, REO Speedwagon, Styx, the Wallflowers, Cheap Trick and New Found Glory, among others. The event drew some 20,000 to the Florida State Fairgrounds here. For the Live Nation Amphitheatre main stage, ESI Audio of Tampa provided the new NEXO STM line array elements. ESI Audio president Erick Celeiro functioned as FOH tech, and Ozzy Giron acted as monitor tech on the rig.

MELBOURNE, FL — Orbital Sound is supporting Big League Productions’ U.S. national tour of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls, featuring a sound design by Matt Geasey and Mike Tracey. The audio setup includes d&b audiotechnik V-Series speakers, a Yamaha CL5 mixing console, and a Shure UHF-R wireless microphone system with UR1-M micro bodypack transmitters. After the production’s 21-week run through the U.S., it heads to Japan later this year.

While the location was free of heavy-duty RF congestion, the event organizers still made sure the PWS crew was on hand to ensure there would be no issues with the more than 600 frequencies in use for an artist lineup that included Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder and the Kings of Leon, among others.

Elvis Seen in London Palladium, Heard via GLD-80 System

LONDON — Tom Cox, sound designer for Elvis – the Ultimate Performance, featuring impersonator Chris Connor and a full band, relied upon Allen & Heath’s GLD digital system for FOH and monitor mixing. The GLD-80 was fitted with a Dante card, enabling a previous multi-track recording of the show to be played back for virtual sound check.
