NEW ORLEANS — After an extensive nine-month, $10.5M renovation project, the Civic Theatre, the oldest surviving theatre building in New Orleans, has officially reopened its doors after sitting dormant for more than three decades. To bring the 107-year-old, 15,000-square-foot performance venue up to today’s production standards, Solomon Group, a new L-Acoustics Certified Provider for install and rental markets, specified and integrated a KIVA-KILO loudspeaker system into the space.

FLINT, MI — Fueled by the massive success of their sophomore release, Understanding What We’ve Grown To Be, Michigan metalcore giants We Came As Romans have hit the road in support of their third full-length album, Tracing Back Roots. WCAR tour manager and FOH engineer Bryan Campbell is using PreSonus’ StudioLive 24.4.2 digital console for WCAR’s upcoming third tour of the U.S. and Australia.

LAS VEGAS — The FRONT of HOUSE web servers are once again laboring under the strain of a digital deluge of votes cast for the 2013 Parnelli Hometown Hero Sound Company of the Year award, but they’ll be getting a rest after this Friday, Aug. 30, at 5 pm. That’s the deadline for FOH readers to cast their votes narrowing the field of 30 regional companies now on the Hometown Hero ballot down to six regional winners (five U.S. regions and all of Canada).

CAMP MATHER, CA — The wildlands fire that charred 180,000 acres including parts of Yosemite National Park also forced the cancellation of the Strawberry Music Festival that had been set for Aug. 29-Sept. 2. Now in its 32nd year, the Strawberry event, which focuses on acoustic genres including Americana, bluegrass, blues, folk, swing, rock, Cajun, Celtic and gospel, normally takes place twice each year, over Memorial and Labor Day weekends.

NORFOLK, VA — The multi-purpose Ted Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, colloquially known as “The Ted,” has undergone  a comprehensive upgrade with an end-to-end installed sound system from QSC for its tenth anniversary. The audio system overhaul at the arena, which seats 8,639 for basketball games, comprised of two separate QSC WideLine-8 line array systems as well as AcousticDesign Surface Mount and Ceiling Mount loudspeakers powered by PowerLight 3 and CX Series amplifiers, with a Q-Sys Core 500i  handling all signal distribution and system processing.

MIAMI — Professional Wireless Systems (PWS) returned to provide another wireless assist for Telemundo’s second annual Premios Tu Mundo awards show. The red carpet event and live broadcast was staged Aug. 15 at the American Airlines Arena here.

BOULDER, CO — Nick Forster, founder and host of the nationally syndicated eTown radio program, worked with Sam Berkow of SIA Acoustics for the program’s 17,000-square-foot specialty venue, eTown Hall, last year. The venue is equipped with Alcons Audio’s LR14/90 pro-ribbon based line-array system, and additional Alcons speakers are used for a stage monitor system and small café rig. SACRAMENTO, CA – Consumnes River College (CRC) is a community college in South Sacramento, California. CRC expanded their program with two new soccer fields and a common press box. Associated Sound of Sacramento designed their new sound system using Community R-Series Loudspeakers.
