LITITZ, PA — Walter Eugene Clair, one of the Clair Brothers Audio entrepreneurs, died Dec. 3, 2013. Clair, known as Gene, is pictured here at the 2008 Parnelli Awards, accepting that year’s Audio Innovator Award with his younger brother, Roy. Gene was 73 at the time of his passing.

Princeton’s Frist Theatre Using VUE al-4 Line Array

PRINCETON, NJ — For the 239-seat theatre within Princeton University’s Frist Campus Center, PanAVid worked with the venue’s production manager, Jim Streeter and his colleague James Allington, audio engineer at the university’s Richardson Auditorium, on an upgrade. The new L-R setup includes dual four-element al-4 arrays yoke-mounted on poles atop a pair of VUE hs-25 powered subwoofers. A single VUE V4 systems engine provides power and processing for the eight al-4 elements. An Avid VENUE S3L console handles the mix.

Sennheiser to FCC: Make Auction Winners Pay Those Hurt by Loss of 600 MHz Range

OLD LYME, CT — Noting that the FCC’s pending spectrum auction jeopardizes future use of wireless microphones operating in the 600MHz range, forcing content creators to reinvest in wireless gear, Sennheiser formally proposed that winners of the new spectrum compensate owners of wireless microphone equipment that will be rendered obsolete as a direct result of the planned spectrum repacking.

ABBA Tribute Tour Mixed on Yamaha CL5

SEDONA, AZ — Clearwing Productions engineer Trevor Powers, pictured here, used one of the rental company’s Yamaha CL5 digital audio consoles with two Rio 3224-D input/output boxes for the FOH mix for an ABBA tribute tour in the U.S. recently. The ABBA Mania tour, promoted by Handshake Group of Manchester, U.K., began Nov. 1 in Elkhart, IN and ended Nov. 24 in Sedona, AZ.

LAS VEGAS — The 2013 Parnelli Awards had it all — humor (host Micky Dolenz busting on Toronto mayor Rob Ford), candor (Eric Pearce’s  gratitude for his dad’s support), insight (Mark Engebretson on the fragility of new ideas) and poignancy (Mo Morrison’s “one-two punch” — noting how the news of his Parnelli Hall of Fame honor coincided with the obituary for his longtime friend Marshall Holmes).

Morgan Sound Reports Theft of Gear

LYNNWOOD, WA — Morgan Sound’s Steve Boyce has reported the theft of a truckload of gear from the company’s parking lot here on Nov. 16. The truck and its contents were stolen. The truck was recovered but the gear is still missing. It included a variety of JBL speakers, Crown amps, Yamaha digital mixers, Sennheiser IEMs and Shure wireless gear, among other items. Boyce noted that all items, including those without serial numbers “had a Morgan Sound asset tag, however, we’re pretty sure the thieves will do their best to remove the tags.”

Online Ticket Deadline for Parnelli Awards is Nov. 20 at Noon PST

LAS VEGAS — The last chance to order tickets for the 2013 Parnelli Awards on parnelliawards.com is this Wednesday, Nov. 20 at noon PST. After that, any remaining tickets will be sold at the door of the event on a first-come, first-serve basis. This year’s honorees include George Travis, Mo Morrison, Eric Pearce and Mark Engebretson, and the Nov. 23 event, set to begin at 8 p.m. after a 7 p.m. cocktail reception, is to be hosted by Micky Dolenz.

Major Tom Supports Ed Sheeran Concerts at NYC’s MSG with Meyer Sound LEO System

NEW YORK – Earlier this fall, Major Tom Ltd. supported British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran’s performance as headliner of three solo acoustic shows at New York City’s Madison Square Garden with a Meyer Sound LEO. The system was credited for amplifying the sound of Sheeran’s acoustic guitar so that it could be heard throughout the venue, while also giving the performance an intimate feel in the huge venue.
