AUSTIN, TX – An annual onslaught of bands during the the South By South West Music Festival, Good Danny’s recording studio plays host to 40 bands in 5 days. Managing so many musicians in such a short span of time has its share of headaches, but one thing the staff at Danny’s doesn’t have to concern themselves with is the microphones and headphones that are their brand of choice – beyerdynamic. This year beyer brought in 20 pairs of the new Custom Studio headphones for the Day Trotter series at Danny’s.

ITHACA, NY – The sound reinforcement system inside Cornell University’s Sage Chapel has evolved with the state of technology over the decades. Its latest upgrade condensed seven feet of rack space used for 1990s-era processing and amplification into just seven inches using an Ashly Pema 8250 and an Ashly ne4250pe. Each unit combines Ashly’s Protea signal processing with clean, high-powered amplifier channels – twelve in all.

AKRON, OH – The Chapel, based here, added an Adamson SpekTrix line array to their campus in Green, Ohio as part of a recent renovation.  Because the various worship services there include musical accompaniment ranging from live praise bands to piano or choir performances, it was important that the system be musical while also providing the intelligibility important during services. On occasion the sanctuary is also used for full-fledged concerts as well.

Mercersburg Academy Gets Boost from New Wireless Gear and Northern Sound & Light

MERCERBURG, PA – For the 600-seat Simon Theater within Burgin Center for the Arts, a 65,500 square-foot facility at Mercerburg Academy, Northern Sound & Light (NSL) provide Shure ULX series transmitters and receivers, and Countryman B3 lavalier microphones. Steve Crick, the college prep school’s director of technical theatre, credited NSL for the help with the audio upgrade, which enhanced a recent production of Legally Blonde.

DENVER, CO — To record organist Michael Hey’s Feb. 14 performance on the restored Platt Rogers pipe organ at St. John’s Cathedral here, the church’s music administrator, Alberto Gutierrez, turned to recording engineer Mike Pappas, who used a variety of Neumann digital microphones positioned throughout the venue to capture the recital in 88.2kHz resolution/24-bit digital audio.
