ANAHEIM, CA – Renowned drummer Dennis Chambers used a combination of DPA microphones on his Pearl drum kit during his solo performance at the Pearl booth at NAMM 2016. Chambers had d:vote 4099D Instrument Microphones on all the toms, one d:dicate 4018F Supercardiod Microphone on the large suspended kick drum, and d:dicate 2011C Cardiod Microphones on the kick drum, snare drum and high hats.

LITITZ, PA — Clair Global has taken delivery of the first two Yamaha Rivage PM10 Digital Audio Consoles to hit U.S. soil, according to Yamaha Commercial Audio. Both consoles are currently being used at front of house and monitors for Carrie Underwood’s “The Storyteller Tour.” Front of House engineer Kirk “Eek” Schreiner, pictured here, praised the console’s sound quality. “The Yamaha PM10 is the first digital desk that sounds analog to me,” he said.

ATLANTA — With the promise that “three locations will be connected across two cities with a single heartbeat,” Passion 2016 delivered worship sessions, speakers, and praise music through nine Optocore-networked DiGiCo SD7 digital audio mixing consoles at arenas in Georgia and Texas. Rat Sound networked nine SD7 consoles across three different venues for the Christian conference held Jan. 2-4 at Infinite Energy Arena and Philips Arena in Atlanta and Toyota Center in Houston.

LAGOS, Nigeria — One of Africa’s largest concerts and religious gatherings, The Experience, is an interdenominational gospel concert and word-based gathering organized The House On The Rock Church.
The most recent event, staged Dec. 4, drew as many as a half-million people to Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos. Cytech World Communication deployed an Outline audio system including 30 GTO C-12 line arrays, two GTO-DF down-fills, 16 DBS 18-2 subwoofers and four LAB 21 HS infra-low subwoofers to cover the large crowd.  The lineup of inspirational speakers and performers included Don Moen, Donnie McClurkin, Fred Hammond, Micah Stampley, Kim Burrell, Hezekiah Walker, Jessica Reedy and Sonnie Badu.

CALIFORNIA, BERKELEY – Recently reopened UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) building, one of the nation’s premier institutions for the presentation of cinema, installed a 7.1 Meyer Sound cinema system in its 232-seat Barbro Osher Theater, which hosts both film screenings, lectures and discussions regarding current films and art exhibits. Elsewhere, CAL column array loudspeakers provide sound reinforcement for a large, outdoor LED screen.

LITTLE ROCK, AR – St. James Methodist Church recently added a teen bistro, eight new classrooms, and the Jones Fellowship Hall. Ashly Audio’s combined processor/multi-channel amplifiers and intuitive user interface to give the systems a solid backbone with user-friendly access to meet the needs of the church. Memphis Sound Lab designed and installed the sound reinforcement systems for the new spaces.

PRATT, KANSAS —Advanced Sound & Communication installed a Roland XS-84H as the heart of a new media system for the New First Southern Baptist Church building. The video system upgrade is the Roland XS-84h 8-In x 4-Out Multi-Format AV Matrix Switcher, part of the new Roland XS Series line of Multi-Format Matrix Switchers designed for fixed installations requiring high-quality integrated video and audio conversion and switching. The XS-84h is a single-unit solution for total control of video and audio.

LOS ANGELES—At the 58^th Annual GRAMMY Awards, HARMAN’s JBL VTX Series line arrays were once again used by ATK Audiotek for the PA system in the STAPLES Center. The GRAMMY Awards were broadcast live in HD and 5.1 surround sound on the CBS television network and had more than 23.5 million viewers.

ATLANTA, GEORGIA— HARMAN Professional Solutions’ JBL loudspeakers and Crown amplifiers were once again selected to provide superior sound and coverage at the 2015 BET Hip Hop Awards at the Atlanta Civic Center. Hosted by Snoop Dogg, this year’s award winners included Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West.  Firehouse Productions, a Red Hook, New York based Pro AV company deployed the new JBL VTX line array elements.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA — On Wednesday, March 9, 2016, DPA Microphones, Lectrosonics, Sound Devices, and new partner K-Tek, will host The Sound Summit Orlando at Full Sail Live 1, located at Full Sail University. This event is part of the Sound Summit series of informal networking and educational presentations by these companies for the audio community. Past cities have included New York City, Chicago, and Atlanta, with additional new locations added later this year.

BOZEMAN, MONTANA – Doug Brekke of Black Box Design recently teamed up with Bridgewater Acoustics to design and install a new Bose Professional Room Match sound system for Montana State University in The Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.  Since the sound system upgrade the 7250 seat Fieldhouse, has become host to a far wider range of events, including the occasional rodeo, concerts and trade expos.

BOSTON — Berklee College of Music is using Point Source Audios’ Series8 cardioid headset microphones for their musical productions. The Point Source headset mics debuted at the school late last year. They are expected to be used for hundreds of student-run productions each year (including the recent production pictured here). Alejo Planchart, production manager in concert operations for Berklee, praised the headset mics for low coloration and high gain-before-feedback. “The sound is much more natural after feedback corrections,” Planchart noted.
