AES70 Ratification and Beckhoff OCA Implementation Major Themes for OCA Alliance at ISE 2016

BOTHELL, WASHINGTON – Exhibiting for the first time since ratification of Open Control Architecture (OCA) by the Audio Engineering Society as the AES70 standard, the OCA Alliance experienced its busiest ever trade show at ISE, reflecting a heightened interest among AV industry professionals in a common remote control standard. The alliance’s booth was effectively a walk-on rolling OCA seminar, hosting a live demonstration of OCA (AES70) control interoperability and continuous advanced technical discussions between OCA Alliance member company representatives and the AV industry at large.

Abilene Civic Center Gets Major Audio Upgrades with Community D SERIES Loudspeakers

ABILENE, TX – Originally constructed in the late 1960s, the Abilene Civic Center is a spacious, multi-purpose venue with a live performance theater, an exhibit hall and a large conference center that can be subdivided to accommodate as many as four simultaneous events. Marsh PMK designed a flexible system with wireless iPad setup and control. Auto-mixing, signal processing and control are provided by a BSS London DSP with iPad interface and the system includes seventy-eight Community D SERIES model D8 two-way coaxial ceiling loudspeakers powered by Lab Gruppen amplifiers.

Oscars Ceremony Heard via JBL VerTec Arrays Supplied by ATK Audiotek

LOS ANGELES — Working with a sound design from Pat Baltzell of Baltzell Audio Design, ATK Audiotek deployed a sound system for the 88th Annual Academy Awards ceremony, staged Feb. 28, 2016 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, that included JBL VerTec 4889 line array elements (L-R, 15 per side), VerTec 4880A subwoofers (six per side) and JBL MS28 loudspeakers for under-balcony area coverage. A total of 140 JBL Control 25T surface-mount loudspeakers were also temporarily installed under audience seats in the VIP seating area, and four JBL AC15 two-way loudspeakers were used for the Academy Governors’ boxes.

Nashville Pros Get Hands-on with the Roland Professional A/V Experience

NASHVILLE — Roland Professional A/V, in cooperation with its southeast regional rep HWPco, recently took over two rooms at the SoundCheck Nashville rehearsal facility for two days of hands-on demonstrations of its audio and video production solutions. The Roland M-5000 Live Mixing Console was the featured audio hardware, with three desks on hand; HWPco personnel and Roland live audio products sales engineer Brian Belcher were available to guide the tours of the desk for 50 media pros.

Indiana Wesleyan University Upgrades Phillippe Auditorium with L-Acoustics System

MARION, IN –  Indiana Wesleyan University’s Phillippe Performing Arts Center (PPAC) recently installed L-Acoustics’ Kara(i) and Kiva elements within PPAC’s Phillippe Auditorium. SineWave Audio Inc installed the upgrade supplied by L-Acoustics certified provider Mid-America Sound. SineWave Audio designed a hybrid system extending the range of the subs for music and playback with a center array of 15 compact Kiva enclosures primarily used for speech reinforcement. BACKNANG, Germany — Ardian, a privately-held investment company, is joining forces with d&b audiotechnik GmbH’s current management team to buy the pro audio company from its current owners, investment companies Odewald & Compagnie and COBEPA. d&b audiotechnik is the 13th company purchased by Ardian LBO Fund V, which is capitalized at €2.8 billion.
