In Memoriam: Russell Gray, 61

ATLANTA, GA – Russell Gray, who was noted for mixing FOH for Eddie Rabbit, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the evening of February 23, 2016. He was 61. Gray was born in Richmond, CA in 1955 and during his 40-plus year career, worked closely with countless artists including Fleetwood Mac, Metallica and Bowie during the 1980’s and 90’s. After Rabbit’s passing in 1998, Gray went on to lead a less road-heavy life as an audio engineer, working mostly in and around the Atlanta area with Atlanta Sound and Lighting, Entertainment Design Group and Seriously Sound Inc.

The Coffman Memorial Union at the University of Minnesota Gets a Digital Upgrade With DiGiCo’s S21

MINNEAPOLIS – DiGiCo’s S21 console promised to add to the number of venues that could now afford to “go DiGiCo.” The Coffman Memorial Union at the University of Minnesota (UMN) in Minneapolis is one such venue. The Union hosts everything from concerts to keynotes to movie nights, and recently replaced an analog system in its multipurpose, 1,000-capacity Great Hall with a DiGiCo S21 desk supplied by Eden Prairie-based Audio Logic Systems. INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Harman Professional Solutions’ JBL VTX line arrays and Crown I-Tech HD amplifiers were at the heart of a sound system deployed by CTS Audio during the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) at Lucas Oil Stadium. The NCYC featured a variety of spoken word, live music and dramatic performances configured in the round, with the main speaker system featuring a total of 90 JBL VTX V25-II full-size line arrays (in six columns of 15 loudspeakers each) and six hangs of six VTX S28 subwoofers, each flown behind the columns of VTX V25-IIs.

Firehouse Productions Purchases 96 L-Acoustics K2 Enclosures

RED HOOK, NY – Firehouse Productions recently added 96 new L-Acoustics K2 enclosures to its inventory along with 36 LA8 amplified controllers housed in a dozen LA-RAK touring racks. Shared between Firehouse’s Red Hook, NY headquarters and the company’s five-year-old Las Vegas location, the K2 loudspeakers are already scheduled to be part of the L-Acoustics systems that will accompany Radiohead at Madison Square Garden. They’ll also support tours this year for Florence + The Machine and the “Rock, Paper, Scissors” double-bill of Peter Gabriel and Sting.
