LAS VEGAS — Master Mix Live, a semi-private school that offers students a live audio engineering education, announces its 2016 graduating class.  The 5-month, 240-hour immersive program is uniquely modeled to teach, train and prepare up and coming audio engineers with live practical knowledge and the understanding and use of up-to-date, cutting-edge audio gear to qualify as an A1 or A2 proficient live audio engineer in 20 weeks.

NASHVILLE – Yamaha Professional Audio brought in two of the new Rivage PM10 Digital Audio Consoles to support the 35+ mix engineers at the Riverfront Stage at the CMA Music Festival June 9-12 in Nashville. John Mills of Nashville-based Morris, one of the audio production companies for the festival, had the opportunity to man one of the two at FOH. Mills mixed Brooke Eden and Neil McCoy.

LOS ANGELES – When Meytal Cohen, the drummer for and founding member of the heavy metal band Meytal, set out on her U.S. tour, she wanted to go big and provide fans with superior audio quality at each venue. To achieve the huge sound she was looking for, Cohen turned to DPA Microphones’ d:vote 4099D Instrument Microphones to amplify her drum set.

MIAMI – Twelve Miami, a recently-opened nightclub that regularly hosts live acts and uses DJs as well, turned to PA Sound and Solutions Corporation of Medley, FL for a sound system that would perform well for live music, music playback and also have good speech intelligibility and provide even dispersion throughout the room. PA Sound and Solutions provided a system with components from D.A.S. Audio.

LAS VEGAS — The deadline to nominate regional sound companies for a 2016 Parnelli Award as Hometown Hero Sound Company of the Year is only days away: June 30. Nominations have been coming in fast and furious for the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest and Southwest regions, but for some reason (Global warming? Brexit? Who knows?) we’ve had fewer nominations coming in from the Northwest U.S. and Canada this year.

KNOXVILLE, TN – Audio presented a challenge on the Outcry Tour. The varied roster of top contemporary Christian artists, which included Hillsong Worship, Kari Jobe, Jesus Culture with Martin Smith, Passion, Elevation Worship, Brian Houston and others, ranged from folky singer-songwriters to full-out screaming rock. But the clarity of the spoken word was another consideration in the arena to stadium venues. Sound provider Special Event Services (SES) was ready for the production challenges with its L-Acoustics K1/K2 PA system.

NEW YORK — Saturday Night Live: The Exhibition recently finished a successful run at the Premier on 5th exhibition center on NYC’s Fifth Ave., just a few blocks from where SNL gets staged every week. In addition to the comedy skits and the behind the scenes focus of the exhibition, the 12,500-square-foot exhibition also paid homage to the musical guests, with extensive use of loudspeakers, amplifiers, digital signal processing and acoustical modeling from Bose Professional. AV systems integrator Design Electronics was chosen by museum-experience creator Premier Exhibitions of Atlanta for the project.

WOODINVILE, WA – EAW and Mackie are touring the U.S., showing their new end-to-end audio solution designed for production and system integration. Featuring stops at all key U.S. markets, the L3 Tour kicks off on July 11, 2016 and runs through Labor Day.

TORRANCE, CA – Alex Alvarez is best known as Lenny Kravitz’ guitar tech, but after 25 years, he is in many ways Kravitz’ right-hand man. For tours, he’s the crew chief, responsible for hiring the crew, maintaining the equipment, and more. Off tour, he manages Kravitz’ studios in Paris and the Bahamas. Wherever Kravitz and his band go, you’ll find a Mackie mixer in use.

CANFIELD, OH – The historic Old North Church in Canfield, OH offers worship gatherings supported by music and a blend of traditional and modern expressions of the gospel. When an audio upgrade was called for, clarity of sound for music and speech were the two goals. Church leaders sought out services from Custom Integrated Solutions of Youngstown, OH for the solution with Community Professional’s I Series loudspeakers. They achieved their goal. “This was the first time we could hear in the church,” said one church member.

BETHLEHEM, PA — Music plays a prominent role in the church services at the nondenominational New Covenant Christian Community Church (NC4) in Bethlehem, PA. The church recently upgraded their sound reinforcement system, with Horizon AVL of Blackwood, NJ, contracted to handle the installation.
