CHICAGO – As a drummer for the past 15 years, Jeff Snider welcomed the prize he won a year ago: a pair of 2X-S custom in-ear monitors and dB Check in-ear sound level analyzer from Sensaphonics. He suffers a bit of tinnitus and some high-end hearing loss, and says the Sensaphonics 2X-S silicone IEMs have helped him monitor more clearly at safer levels.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC —Special Event Services (SES) of Winston-Salem, NC deployed its new Yamaha PM10 digital audio console on tour with one of the company’s oldest clients, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Monitor engineer David Baker has used the Yamaha PM1D for years, and was interested in the Rivage PM10. “Couple the sound with great ergonomic layout and capabilities, and you have a desk that is easy to operate and capable of handling the most demanding mixing tasks,” Baker says.

NEW YORK CITY — The AES has released the list of winning candidates in the 2016 Audio Engineering Society international elections. Among the newly-elected, David Scheirman takes on the role as the new President-Elect. He will first serve on the AES Board of Governors and Executive Committee as President-Elect, fully assuming the presidency in October 2017 for a one-year term.

STARKSVILLE, MS – Mississippi State’s new production facility and its two video control rooms will handle all of the school’s sports audio needs through a newly installed DiGiCo S21console. This includes broadcast sound for SEC Network shows, intercom audio for operations, foldback audio for on-air talent and live sound inside the venue. Atlanta-based AV systems integrator Comprehensive Technical Group (CTG) installed the console in the new facility within Davis Wade Stadium.

CHICAGO— Thunder Audio deployed their JBL VTX V25-II speaker system for the three-day LakeShake music festival on the shores of Lake Michigan. The festival brought together more than 30 of country music’s biggest stars. MIAMI –  To launch the new 1 Hotel South Beach, Starwood Capital invested in a $2 million audio system upgrade. Advance Home Theatre installed the new system. Dante networking now connects 23 Ashly Pema combined matrix processors and multi-channel amplifiers for system-wide connectivity inside and outside of the renovated luxury hotel.

PHILADELPHI – “Cirque Goes to the Movies” was created specifically for the 65-piece Philly Pops orchestra and required first-class sound design to meet the challenge. Andre Houser, founder and chief engineer of Houser Audio, executed the sound design exclusively with VUE Audiotechnik loudspeakers, with the al-Class of Scalable Acoustic Linearity Arrays at the heart of the event.

LAS VEGAS – Sake Rok restaurant features a wait staff that double as singing and dancing emcees. To capture the energy and vitality of a true live concert, ATI president Robert Athey turned to Powersoft’s X8 amplifier to drive the entire main sound system. The system is able to switch from normal operation into “performance mode” at the push of a button, making it easy for any Sake Rok staff member to activate when the time comes for the wait staff to break into their routine.

LAS VEGAS — October may still seem like a long time away, but the planning for the 2016 Parnelli Awards is already revving into high gear, with the first round of voting for regional Hometown Hero sound companies already underway and nominations for most of the other Parnelli Awards categories less than two weeks away. And as in years past, the live event industry is stepping up to support the 2016 Parnelli Awards gala (Oct. 22) and golf tournament (Oct. 20), with more than 30 sponsors announced by mid-July.

OLD LYME, CT – Sennheiser is in its second year of helping train the next generation of women in audio with SoundGirls.org camps. Held four times over the summer in cities throughout the U.S., the Live Sound Camps teach youth the basics of live audio from top professionals in the industry. The week culminates in a full live show that the campers run on their own, featuring local bands.
