KETTLE RIVER, MN — Monty Lee Wilkes, a noted FOH engineer, producer and occasional tour manager, died Aug. 26, 2016 in hospice at his parents’ house after a lengthy bout with terminal cancer. He was 54. Wilkes’ work spanned nearly every musical genre, with his resume including credits with The Replacements, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Joe Strummer, Curtiss A, The Suburbs, Soul Asylum, Prince, The Smithereens, Beastie Boys, Britney Spears, The Go Go’s, Engelbert Humperdinck, Soul Asylum, The Suburbs, Babes in Toyland, Lisa Marie Presley, Red Kross, Siouxsie & The Banshees, The B-52’s and the Commodores.

NEW YORK — David Geffen Hall in New York’s Lincoln Center, formerly Avery Fisher Hall, is the 2,738-seat home to the New York Philharmonic. The venue recently turned to WorldStage for an audio upgrade. WorldStage audio designer Kate Brown upgraded the system with d&b audiotechnik components including V7P and V10P point source loudspeakers for the main space, E8 loudspeakers for balcony seating and T10 speakers for front fill.

CLEVELAND — Cleveland-based Rock The House Audio Visual  provided audio for three major but diverse events around the upcoming US Presidential election. They all shared one thing in common: XTA Electronics APA Series APA-4E8 Adaptive Processing Amplifiers.

MINNEAPOLIS – The “Kill The Lights” tour with headliner Luke Bryan and tour mates Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch inaugurated the new US Bank Stadium, the NFL’s newest venue and home to the Minnesota Vikings. Also making headlines was the fact that every FOH and monitor console in the house was from DiGiCo.

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Coconut Groove Band cover band switched out their anlog mixer for the Mackie DL32R rack-mount digital mixer. Besides the many audio benefits, the mixer enabled band members to get rid of their equipment trailer because of the space-saving unit.

SAUGATUCK, MI – Stewart Independent Production (SIP) adds RCF TTS36A subwoofers to support the company’s inventory of RCF’s new TTL6A True Line Source Large Format Line Array Modules. SIP has a large inventory of RCF TTS18A active subwoofers in addition to the newly acquired TTS36A modules.

SAUGET, IL — TSI Global Companies upgraded the PA system for GCS Ballpark with Martin Audio CDD-WR weatherized speakers. The minor league ball park in Sauget, IL, a suburb of St. Louis, is home to the Gateway Grizzlies. Paul Murdick, the park’s general manager, based the equipment choice on “quality, intelligibility, durability and value for the investment,” and also on Martin Audio’s support.

BUENA PARK, CA – Sound Image added a new Yamaha Rivage PM10 Digital Audio Console to its inventory in time for the summer touring season. Sound Image monitor engineer Bill Szocska took it out on the road with Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefers “I Don’t Know”  tour.

NEW YORK, NY – The new Match Game’s producers wanted to recreate the 1960s TV game show with as many elements as possible from the original production, including the iconic skinny handheld microphone. Their replica has the iconic shape of the original, and is also wireless, making use of Lectrosonics Digital Hybrid Wireless technology.

LAS VEGAS — The Parnelli Awards nominations process, which has been underway since early August, comes to a close early tomorrow, along with nominations for audio, video, staging and lighting products for year’s Indispensable Technologies “IT” Awards. To be specific, the nominations deadline this year is Aug. 24, 2016, at 8 a.m., Pacific time. (Those on the East Coast get until 11 a.m. before the nominations window slams shut.)
