NEW YORK – When sound designer for The Hubble Cantata, Garth MacAleavey, began to plan his sound setup for this year’s live event, he knew that DPA Microphones needed to be part of the show. What he wasn’t expecting, was how essential DPA would become to the overall performance.

LOS ANGELES — ATK Audiotek Corp. recently provided an Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW) Adaptive sound reinforcement system for ESPN’s 24th Annual ESPY Awards, held at the Microsoft Theater (formerly the Nokia Theater L.A. Live), in Los Angeles. 

Valencia, CA-based ATK Audiotek has provided sound reinforcement systems and support for the ESPY awards since the athletic award show debuted in 1993. This was their first time out with the Anna system. 

HOUSTON – Austin-based Big House Sound, Inc. recently completed the installation and commissioning of a new audio system at the Rice Owls Football Stadium in Houston. The audio system is part of Rice University’s new sports facility project that includes a 580 sq. ft. video display and broadcast cabling system designed by John Miller at the Technical Design Group.

IOWA CITY, IA — In 2008, when the Iowa River flooded and destroyed Hancher Auditorium and 12 other buildings at the University of Iowa, the loss to the community was far greater than the physical loss of those structures. Hancher Auditorium was one of the most popular venues for touring groups in the region, and the flood forced the student and traveling groups that normally used the venue to move into nearby facilities. But with the recent grand opening of the new Hancher Auditorium, the University of Iowa and the people of Iowa City once again have a magnetic cultural center to call their own.

LAS VEGAS – Advanced Concepts & Designs recently completed the audio, video, lighting and sound design and installation at Freedom Beat inside the Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino. Cerwin Vega and a Crestron control system comprise the main sound system.

NEW YORK – El Media Group installed a selection of K-array products into the luxury Edition Hotel. The system was required for the hotel’s The Clocktower restaurant and the Lobby Bar, and needed to accommodate low, background audio as well as live music and a DJ set.

NORTHRIDGE, CA—Harman is participating in the upcoming 141st Audio Engineering Society (AES) show with a series of technical contributions Thursday, Sept. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 2. Engineers and scientists from Harman will present five papers that address different aspects of professional audio, production, tour sound and more. Harman team members will also participate in discussions ranging from the evolution of technology to predicting sound quality.
