COLLEGE PARK, WA – Sound Image recommended a Nexo ID Series low profile, high-output loudspeaker system as a suitable solution for the Fellowship Hall at the Walla Walla University Church. “With the low ceiling of the room, we needed something that was very small and could tuck up to the ceiling so we wouldn’t lose any head room,” says Brandon Rinas of Sound Image.

EAU CLAIRE, WI – The Earthworks PM40 PianoMic miked the pianos at the Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival this past summer. The engineers using the mike say it proved itself amongst the different musical artists, allowing the piano to come through cleanly, even in situations with the piano in close proximity to two rock drummers.

PACHECO, CA — Studio recording engineer and front of house mixer Tom Size passed away early in the morning of October 30, 2016 after a long struggle with melanoma skin cancer. Size had worked with a variety of artists, including Aerosmith, the Steve Miller Band, Mr. Big, Sammy Hagar, David Lee Roth and Journey during his nearly-40 year career, but was perhaps best known as the studio and FOH engineer for many tours with rockers Y&T. He was 57.

NEW YORK — An Oct. 29 matinee performance of Guillaume Tell at the Metropolitan Opera was cut short and the production of L’Italiana in Algeri that evening was canceled as authorities investigated reports of a man sprinkling white powder into the orchestra pit. The man turned out to be Roger Kaiser, an opera buff visiting from Dallas, who was carrying out the last wishes of a deceased friend. The white powder was his friend’s ashes.

MIAMI — Eastern Acoustic Works (EAW) brought its largest ADAPTive sound system to date to Miami’s 2016 Apostolic and Prophetic Conference at the American Airlines Arena. The system needed to be flown very high. A big advantage of the Adaptive system is the ability to provide coverage straight down from a high position. Since the vertical coverage of the system is adaptable from 90° down to 90° up, supplemental down fill or up fill enclosures are unnecessary.

CLARKSVILLE, TN –  Fortera Stadium at Austin Peay State University needed to upgrade its sound system. The old system was too quiet, delivered spotty coverage, and only managed to provide old-fashioned ‘PA-horn’ fidelity. Tennessee’s oldest family-owned AVL company (40-plus years), LSC installed Ashley NX-Series multi-channel amplifiers.

LAS VEGAS — Adrian Belew, whose skills as an emcee and comedian, it turns out, rivals his artistry on the guitar, dropped a hint midway through the 2016 Parnelli Awards gala that something special was about to be added to an already extraordinary evening Oct. 22 at the Rio in Las Vegas. The surprise: an appearance by Tom Petty to present the 2016 award for Lifetime Achievement to his longtime tour manager Richard Fernandez.

ATLANTA – An EAW Redline sound reinforcement system found a new home in the sanctuary of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Because it is portable and self-powered, it has versatility and the ability to be used in any number of applications the church might have in the future.

AUSTIN, TX – Encompass AV installed a Martin Audio In Sophia’s Restaurant. The venue needed a sound system which would offer softer background music with their high end cocktail lounge, and then more power for DJ nights.

NEW YORK — Eighth Day Sound recently provided Shawn Mendes U.S./Canada tour with a full complement of Adamson E and S-Series line array modules and subwoofers. The final concert at Madison Square Garden required 270° of coverage, while sound reinforcement throughout the tour was easily scaled for smaller venues.
