VAN BUREN, AR – Van Buren High School’s Clair Bates Arena needed a new sound system. When built in 2009, its original budget constraints left the arena’s reinforcement system underpowered and lacking intelligibility. Commercial Audio Systems swept in with a demo of Danley OS-Series weatherproof loudspeakers and subwoofers and with approval on the spot, installed it in the requested 10 days’ time for the school’s first event of the year.

Shure Upgrades Huntington Beach School District

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA – S.A. Moffett Elementary School upgraded the sound system in a room used for district meetings and other educational gatherings. The district wanted the room to have the look and feel of a city council meeting room. They did not want the mics to be visible and needed a system that complemented the Q&A format and style. Surf City Sound installed Shure Microflex Advance Ceiling Array Microphones (MXA910) with SLX24/BETA58 handheld wireless microphones.

Texas Church’s Technical Director, Volunteer Crew Laud DiGiCo Control Solution

BURLESON, TX — Shawn Turner, technical director for Oak Grove Baptist Church in Burleson, TX, cut some stage lighting from the church’s recent install to make room in the budget for the DiGiCo S21 mixing console. Turner appreciates DiGiCo’s Flexi channel design, which adds stereo channels while using only single processing channels. Also, the ability to record 48 tracks over MADI to a computer is another boon for an all-volunteer environment. The overall system was sold and installed by Sight and Sound Technologies Inc. of Colorado Springs.

NEW YORK – Library Lions, New York Public Library’s largest annual event, recently recognized outstanding artists and wordsmiths including Harry Belafonte, Hilary Mantel, Javier Marías, Peggy Noonan and Colm Tóibín. L&M Sound & Light provided a K-array system audio in the acoustically-challenged space. Part of the festivities included an 18-piece orchestra playing from the balcony, but because of the audio system, their music was evenly spread throughout the room.

Duke’s California Restaurants Upgrade with Bose

LA JOLLA and MALIBU, CA – Duke’s Hawaiian-themed restaurants in La Jolla and Malibu, CA, have both upgraded their house sound systems with Bose Professional. The systems were installed over the course of the last year by San Diego-based AV systems integrator 5 North Media Inc. Its President Bob Bobuk says the Bose DS 40 series loudspeakers were perfect for the dining areas, providing clear, articulate sound with the kind of musical presence that didn’t require high volumes. On the other hand, the DS 100 series speakers were the best for the bar areas, able to reproduce excellent bass with a frequency response down to 60 Hz.

Global Citizen Festival Rallies Humanity with L-Acoustics

NEW YORK — Firehouse Productions supplied an L-Acoustics K1/K2 rig for the fifth annual Global Citizen Festival, an event organized by Global Poverty Project and staged on the Great Lawn of New York City’s Central Park. The set design, which accommodated the television broadcast and positioning of I-Mag video screens on either side of the stage for the audience, was a challenge for the sound system. The positioning of the delays was also limited as they could not be located on the grass. L-Acoustics met the challenges.

Yamaha Takes a Bow at Beverly Hilton

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Encore Event Technologies’ Beverly Hills location recently purchased a Yamaha Rivage PM10 Digital Audio Console from Chicago-area sound company TC Furlong for use at the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s International Ballroom in Beverly Hills, CA. The venue hosts a range of events from televised awards broadcasts and high-profile corporate industrials to concerts and theatrical shows. Says Rachel Wolfe, director at Encore, “The console seems to have managed to incorporate the wish lists of all our audio engineers into one extremely flexible board.”
