LONDON — More than 80 people were hurt, four seriously, in a ceiling collapse at the Apollo Theatre here on Dec. 19. The 775-capacity theatre, which first opened in 1901, was nearly full when the ceiling fell a little after 8 p.m., according to reports. The staged production, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, had been underway for about 40 minutes when it was halted amid the fallen debris and dust.

CAMBRIDGE, UK — Cambridge Corn Exchange has been a well-known landmark on the UK touring circuit for many years and the scene of numerous memorable performances. Originally opened in 1875, using a quarter of a million local bricks of various different colors, its first concert was staged by the Coldstream Guards and a local choral society. As well as being used for corn trading, it was also popular throughout the 20th century as an event space and hosted its first Motor Show in 1898.

DUBAI — A Turbosound TCX series loudspeaker system has been installed at the Iris Club here by audio designer Joe Chidiac of Pulse Middle East.

EXETER, U.K. —Martin Audio noted the commercial debut for its Martin Audio MLA Mini. Plymouth, U.K.-based Pyramid AV used a system comprised of 24 new MLA Mini, six MSX subs and three flying frames in an effort to sweeten the sound within a “soulless shed,” 7,500-capacty Westpoint Arena. FOH engineer Simon Honywill worked with Martin Audio’s Andy Davies on the mid-October gig, an annual conference for U.K.-based retailer SPAR.

LIVERPOOL, U.K. — For Lawson’s recent homecoming show at Liverpool Echo Arena, rental specialist Adlib, also based here, provided audio, lighting and trucking support. The band’s engineers were Andrew Williamson (FOH) and Craig Pryde (Monitors), and Adlib’s Kenny Perrin was PA tech for the tour.

MUSCAT, Oman – For a concert featuring Sir Tom Jones at Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa here, Talentz Centre LLC deployed their compact Outline Butterfly system. The setup included 12 flown cabinets per side as the main L-R system along with four Outline Mantas  per side as downfills and 16 Outline Subtech 218 subwoofers for the low end. The speaker system was powered by Outline T-Series amplifiers.
