Prince Gig at London’s Electric Ballroom Mixed on Midas PRO6 Console

LONDON — LMC Audio Systems Ltd. and production company DB Audio recently provided a pair of Midas PRO6 digital mixing consoles for the Electric Ballroom venue here, the site for the first in a series of non-publicized performances by Prince (the artist, not Harry and William). The console was chosen for sound quality, but its flexibility also proved advantageous – it easily accommodated a request by Prince’s sound engineer to have all monitors, in-ears and FOH controlled by a single console at FOH.

Prolight + Sound 2014 Finishes Strong

FRANKFURT, Germany — The 2014 edition of Prolight + Sound finished strong after four days on March 15, with 897 exhibitors from 42 countries on par with stats from the 2013 event (901 from 41 counties) despite the 2014 event’s month-earlier time frame. Combined with Musikmesse, there were a total 2,242 exhibitors from 57 countries, with a total 110,000 visitors from 142 countries attending the March 12-15 event.

Hell and Heaven Metal Fest Canceled near Mexico City

TEXCOCO, Mexico — The two-day Hell and Heaven Metal Fest that had been scheduled to take place March 15 and 16 at the fairgrounds in this Mexico City suburb has been canceled. State officials cited public safety as the reason for pulling the plug, but town officials and concert organizers, including town spokesman Francisco Vazquez, speculated that politics and economics might have played a role.

About 200 EAW distributors, FOH engineers, pro audio consultants and rental house representatives from China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Australia met in Singapore to experience Anya first-hand. The two-day event featured in-depth Anya training, an Anya demonstration, and a tour of EAW installations.

Sound Designer Tony Meola Uses Meyer Sound Constellation for “Wicked” in Mexico

MEXICO CITY — For the first Spanish language adaptation of the musical Wicked, staged at Teatro Telcel here, Broadway sound designer Tony Meola is using Mexico’s first Constellation acoustic system from Meyer Sound. The system, installed by Naucalpan de Juárez-based Teletec, includes Stella-4, Stella-8, UP-4XP, MM-4XP and UPJunior speakers and and MM-10XP subs.

Parashoot Supports Ane Brun Tour with Allen & Heath iLive

STIGTOMTA, Sweden – PA rental company Parashoot, based here, has been supporting Norwegian singer songwriter Ane Brun’s European tour with an Allen & Heath iLive and ME personal monitoring system for FOH and monitors, respectively. Parashoot, which has worked with Ane Brun since 2007, used an iLive-T112 system, mixing both FOH and monitors on the same console. xDR-16 I/O expander racks were positioned on stage, one left and one right, along with an iDR-16 MixRack. The ME setup includes five ME-1 personal mixers with a ME-U hub as the power and distribution system on stage.

Metallica Tour Adds 76 Meyer MJF-210 to Arsenal

BOGATA, Colombia — Metallica will expand its touring inventory with 76 units of the new MJF-210 stage monitor from Meyer Sound. The band’s new monitors will first be used on its South American tour this spring. The MJF-210 was developed to the exacting demands presented by the Metallica production team. It’s also the lightest self-powered stage monitor in Meyer Sound’s product line.

Peter Gabriel Tours with Three SSL Live Consoles

MANCHESTER, U.K. — For Peter Gabriel’s ongoing Back to Front tour, FOH engineer Ben Findlay and monitor engineers Dee Miller and Richard Chappell have been making use of the three SSL Live consoles provided for the touring production by Britannia Row. They were first used last fall and will continue as the tour resumes in the U.K. and Europe this April.
