Avicii Performs at Creamfields 2014 with SSL Live Support

DARESBURY, U.K. — Creamfields 2014 drew more than 60,000 EDM fans during its Aug. 22-24, 2014 run. The main North and South Stages both featured large-scale PA systems, supplied by Britannia Row Productions, Ltd., with SSL Live consoles at front of house.  Wayne “Rabbit” Sargeant, FOH engineer for Avicii, used an SSL Live L500 console for the headliner’s performance.

16 Killed, 11 Injured at K-Pop Concert; Festival Safety Official Takes Own Life

SEONGNAM, South Korea — As a crowd of about 700 gathered Oct. 17 near an outdoor stage featuring different K-pop bands, some spectators hopped over a short wall to stand on a ventilation grate. The grate and 27 spectators fell more than 60 feet to an underground parking area. Fourteen died on site; two others succumbed from injuries later. The remaining 11 were severely injured.

London’s National Theatre Boosts MADI Capacity with Six Optocore DD4MR-FX Converters

LONDON – After reviewing of their playback systems, and to meet a need for higher capacity MADI streams, the National Theatre on London’s South Bank purchased six Optocore DD4MR-FX converters from HD Pro Audio. These have been deployed as MADI interfaces for the venue’s DiGiCo SD7T and SD10T consoles. Project engineer Tim Middleton and senior sound technician Alex Caplen worked on the upgrade. Behind the Scenes UK Launched at PLASA 2014

LONDON — The industry stepped up at PLASA 2014 to care for its own by supporting Behind the Scenes UK, the new charity that will provide financial assistance to entertainment technology professionals in need due to serious illness or injury. Through its raffle and other charitable donations, the charity received close to £40,000. Pictured here is White Light’s John Simpson, who also serves as chair of the Behind the Scenes UK Board of Trustees, with Amber Etra, winner of the Third Prize, a £500 hotel voucher. The Second Prize  (£1,000 Amazon gift card) went to Phil Hurley of Stage Sound Services Ltd in Cardiff. The First Prize was won by an American – Jerome Dunn of StageLight in Texas.

Riedel Provides Radio and Intercom Services for European Athletics Championships

ZURICH, Switzerland — Riedel Communications supplied radio and intercom services for the European Athletics Championships. Riedel’s MediorNet network carried video to the LED walls in Letzigrund Stadium, the road race in the city and to two warm-up stadiums. Four Artist digital matrix intercom systems enabled communications across the stadium and on the road race course while the Riedel Juggler enabled the connection of TETRA radio systems to support nearly 500 volunteers. The company also managed frequency coordination for radios, microphones, in-ear systems, and wireless camera systems — a total of more than 300 devices — used in the stadium and on road races.

Void Acoustics Supports Red Bull Culture Clash in London

LONDON – British loudspeaker manufacturer Void Acoustics will be supporting the Red Bull Culture Clash in London by collaborating with London grime crew Boy Better Know. Red Bull describes the event as “a live music experience which has taken place in the UK three times before. The show includes four stages, each featuring a different crew representing different genres. These crews battle for the title of Red Bull Culture Clash winner.” The Oct. 30 finale follows similar events held in Leeds, Birmingham and Bristol, U.K. earlier in October.
