Proel has recently re-introduced its direct boxes to the U.S. market. The affordably-priced line includes the DB1P (passive, $89 MSRP) and DB1A (active, $108 MSRP) models. All feature large, high quality transformers with mu-metal used in both the external shielding as well as the inner cores.
Known for its ability to reduce “airborne” electrical interference, mu-metal is a nickel alloy, consisting of 77% nickel, 16% iron, 5% copper and 2% chromium or molybdenum, and is typically only used in high-end boutique transformer designs.
Specs include low distortion at higher levels (0.007% @0dB, 50Hz to 20kHz), extremely low phase distortion (0°at 20Hz, 0° at 20kHz) and an ultra-wide 10 Hz to 100 kHz (+0dB/-1 dB) frequency response of. Features include multi-step attenuation pads, ground lift switch.
The DB1A adds a polarity reverse switch; the passive dB1P has a switchable HF hiss filter. The molded end caps are removable for side-by-side rack mounting.
