Electro-Voice is now offering its classic RE20 dynamic microphone in a RE20-BLACK version that sports a low-reflection, dark charcoal finish. An industry standard for broadcast announcers for more than 50 years, the RE20’s Variable-D design nearly eliminates the proximity effect of most cardioid designs and its true cardioid pattern with no coloration at 180-degrees off-axis.
Other features include a large-diaphragm capsule with a humbucking coil to guard against line hum; a mid-bass tone-shaping switch; internal element shock-mount to reduce vibration-induced noise; internal pop filter; and a mid-bass tone-shaping switch. Besides vocals, the RE20 is a popular choice for horn miking and on LF-heavy sources such as kick drums, floor toms, bass cabinets and Leslie speakers.
Street price is $449, including stand mount; shock mounts are optional and the familiar beige RE20 remains in production.
