PORTLAND, OR – Audinate and NAMM have partnered to offer Dante training events at the 2017 NAMM Show. Classes run Jan. 19 through Jan. 21 at the Anaheim (CA) Convention Center and feature the topics: Digital Audio Networking, Introduction to Dante, and Training: Intermediate Dante Concepts. In addition, more than 50 Dante partners will exhibit and showcase their latest products as well.

Global Citizen Festival Rallies Humanity with L-Acoustics

NEW YORK — Firehouse Productions supplied an L-Acoustics K1/K2 rig for the fifth annual Global Citizen Festival, an event organized by Global Poverty Project and staged on the Great Lawn of New York City’s Central Park. The set design, which accommodated the television broadcast and positioning of I-Mag video screens on either side of the stage for the audience, was a challenge for the sound system. The positioning of the delays was also limited as they could not be located on the grass. L-Acoustics met the challenges.

Yamaha Takes a Bow at Beverly Hilton

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Encore Event Technologies’ Beverly Hills location recently purchased a Yamaha Rivage PM10 Digital Audio Console from Chicago-area sound company TC Furlong for use at the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s International Ballroom in Beverly Hills, CA. The venue hosts a range of events from televised awards broadcasts and high-profile corporate industrials to concerts and theatrical shows. Says Rachel Wolfe, director at Encore, “The console seems to have managed to incorporate the wish lists of all our audio engineers into one extremely flexible board.”

Top Engineers Choose Sennheiser for American Music Awards

LOS ANGELES – A number of engineers handling audio for the 2016 American Music Awards show on Nov. 20 relied on Sennheiser wireless. The Sennheiser SKM 5200 transmitter, combined with the MD 5235 capsule, proved to be the go-to microphone solution for several FOH and monitor engineers, including Chris Rabold, Ramon Morales, Derek Brener and Vish Wadi. ”Every time I go to these awards shows, I see Sennheiser transmitters and capsules all over the place,” says Brener. “Why do they pick that? Because they have faith in it and can trust it. That main vocal is so important and cannot falter.”

LONDON – Folk balladeer Passenger, aka Michael David Rosenberg, is relying on support from a Meyer Sound Leo Family system from Major Tom Ltd. to carry trademark his raspy voice and delicate songs across large auditoriums and small arenas on his current tour. Disney’s Aladdin Sound Design with TiMax at London’s West End

LONDON – The Broadway hit musical Disney’s Aladdin opened over the summer at the Prince Edward theatre in London’s West End, with TiMax vocal imaging and effects spatialization at the heart of the Ken Travis sound design. Three TiMax2 SoundHub-S64 units (including a hot spare) were purchased by audio provider Autograph Sound, and link to a DiGiCo SD7T console and d&b amplification via MADI and Optocore. Autograph also provided a TiMax Tracker system, which follows the actors around stage to automate the magic of spatial amplification delivered by the TiMax dynamic delay-matrix.

NEW YORK – Audio industry veteran Dr. Richard C. Cabot will manage AES standards in the new year. He fills the role soon to be vacated by Mark Yonge, standards manager since 2001, who has announced his retirement following the 2017 AES International Convention in Berlin. Cabot has years of involvement with AES as a former president since its early years. He was one of the founders of Audio Prevision and developed their digital audio measurement technology.
