INDIANAPOLIS — On May 10, the Indiana State Fair Commission announced several changes in its management. Fairgrounds facilities manager Dave Hummel has retired and will be replaced by Ray Allison, who had been the fair’s director of safety and security. David Shaw has been named chief operating officer for the fairgrounds. Jessie Olvera is the fair’s new director of safety and security.

NEW YORK — Paul Simon and Wynton Marsalis teamed up with special guests including Aaron Neville for three nights of live music at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Michael Conner, Paul Simon’s FOH engineer, handled the mixing duties, using a Studer Vista 5 and Soundcraft Vi6 for the performances, which required more than 100 inputs.

LAS VEGAS — The Parnelli Board of Advisors has announced that Sound Image co-founders Dave Shadoan and the late Ross Ritto will be honored with the 2012 Parnelli Audio Innovator Award at the annual gala dinner here in Oct. 2012.

MOSCOW — Close to 190 companies from 18 countries will exhibit at NAMM Musikmesse Russia/Prolight + Sound NAMM Russia, according to the show’s organizers. Other companies’ products will also be at the show, represented by various distributors. The event is set for May 16-19, 2012.

Once upon a time and long ago, most of us were enticed into becoming sound reinforcement professionals. Of course, at the time, few of us realized that this meant taking a lifelong oath of poverty (we’re never paid what we’re truly worth) and abuse — when it’s right no one notices; when something’s wrong, it’s always our fault. But we love what we do and stick to it in spite of any such minor trivialities.
