Stadium Hockey Games Rely on DiGiCo Consoles

VANCOUVER, BC – This year, for the first time, the National Hockey League (NHL) programmed four regular season games into outdoor venues in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago, scheduling the 2014 NHL Stadium Series between the previously established NHL Winter Classic and NHL Heritage Classic series of outdoor games. Tasked with mixing the live musical entertainment at the games in all three NHL series for broadcast on the NBC networks, Ron Reaves called on production provider Clair Nashville to supply a DiGiCo SD10 digital audio mixing console with two SD-Racks. Korn Drummer, Keyboard Player Touring with Aviom Personal Mixers

LOS ANGELES – Korn drummer Ray Luzier (pictured here) had been using an Aviom personal mixer on tour for the past couple of years. In 2013, when the band set out on tour after the release of their new album, The Paradigm Shift, keyboardist Zac Baird also started bringing an Aviom personal mixer along for the band’s gigs. Although a recent festival gig in Mexico was canceled, Luzier and Baird will be using the gear as the band’s 2014 tour continues.

Concert Structure Falls in Malta, Four Crew Members Injured

TA’ QALI, Malta — The lighting support structure for a concert version of the Maltese rock opera Gensna fell at 10:50 a.m. on March 17 and injured four crew members. One of the workers, Emanuel Ronayne, 48, received life-threatening injuries to the chest; the other injuries were not life-threatening. The accident occurred at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre here. Of the four crew members injured, Ronayne and one other were hospitalized; the two others were reportedly treated on site for bruises and shock.

Yamaha Launches QL Digital Consoles at PL+S

FRANKFURT, Germany — The Yamaha CL Series of digital consoles, widely credited with raising the bar in live digital mixing, were launched in Frankfurt in 2012. At ProLight+Sound 2014, Yamaha launched the QL Series (the QL5 is pictured here). The new consoles inherit such CL features such as all-in-one mixing, processing, and routing capability, but are targeted for small to medium scale live tour sound, house of worship installations, corporate AV and speech applications.

Prolight + Sound 2014 Finishes Strong

FRANKFURT, Germany — The 2014 edition of Prolight + Sound finished strong after four days on March 15, with 897 exhibitors from 42 countries on par with stats from the 2013 event (901 from 41 counties) despite the 2014 event’s month-earlier time frame. Combined with Musikmesse, there were a total 2,242 exhibitors from 57 countries, with a total 110,000 visitors from 142 countries attending the March 12-15 event.

Hell and Heaven Metal Fest Canceled near Mexico City

TEXCOCO, Mexico — The two-day Hell and Heaven Metal Fest that had been scheduled to take place March 15 and 16 at the fairgrounds in this Mexico City suburb has been canceled. State officials cited public safety as the reason for pulling the plug, but town officials and concert organizers, including town spokesman Francisco Vazquez, speculated that politics and economics might have played a role.

DiGiCo Announces 2014 Masters Series Tour Dates

ATLANTA — DiGiCo announced its 2014 Master Series tour schedule. The company will host hands-on training sessions in Atlanta (March 19 and 20), St. Louis (April 22 and 23), Chicago (April 29 and 30), Phoenix (May 13 and 14) and Denver (May 20 and 21).
