LOS ANGELES — Pro Audio veteran Michael Stahl, 68, died Sept. 20, 2014 after an extended illness. Stahl played a key role at ATK Audiotek, serving as its general manager for nine years, then acquiring the company together with partners Scott Harmala and Mikael Stewart and serving as its president before retiring in 2012. Prior to ATK Audiotek, Stahl held key positions with Maryland Sound International (MSI), Mountain Productions and Clair Brothers.

The brand-new Siren festival made its debut in a small picturesque town on the Abruzzo Adriatic coast in Italy, powered by an Outline sound system. The sound systems increased in size from the Outline DVS enclosures installed for the small stages at the Palazzo d’Avalos gardens and Rotonda Viale Dalmazia, through the Arena delle Grazie, where bands had at their disposal 6+6 Outline Mantas and two DBS 18-2 subs, to the courtyard of the 16th century Palazzo d’Avalos, which was equipped with two main hangs of twelve Mantas systems and six DBS 18-2 subwoofers.

NIAGARA FALLS, ON, Canada — One Systems direct weather loudspeakers are being put to the test in the punishing conditions of Niagara Falls. Hornblower Cruises boat tours installed 38 One Systems 103IM high performance loudspeakers on each of its two new boats. “It’s an incredibly harsh environment – that will put any weatherproof speaker to the test,” explains Lorne Bjorgan, president of Design Electronics, which installed and maintains the gear.

Yamaha noted that live sound users stand to benefit from a new 8-band parametric EQ and real time analyzer planned for the V3.0 updates for the company’s CL and QL digital audio consoles in early 2015.
