Point Source Audio’s CO-5w Keeps Singing, Even in the Rain

PORTLAOISE, Ireland — Sound designer Vinny Osborne chose Point Source Audio’s CO-5w waterproof microphone for use on Portlaoise Musical Society’s production of Singin’ in the Rain. As you might have guessed from the name of the show, the mic had to stand up to a bit of wet. The show used three major downpours, but the waterproof CO-5w and its IP rating of 57 shrugged off the dampness. Of the mic, Osborne said, “Not only did the mic withstand the rain, it fits really well and sounds crystal clear. It is a very crisp and very live mic with plenty of level.”

Pyro Implicated in Brazil Nightclub Fire, 237 Killed

SANTA MARIA, Brazil — Authorities have detained four people in connection with a fire that ripped through the packed Kiss nightclub in this southern Brazil city in the early morning hours of Sunday, Jan. 27, killing 237. A small pyro display is being implicated as the cause. Early reports suggest that some kind of pyro device ignited foam sound insulation material on the ceiling, and that a crowd of college-aged revelers stampeded and were suffocated within minutes by the resulting smoke and fumes.

Rat Sound K1 System Raised and Praised at Passion 2013

ATLANTA — During the first four days of 2013, more than 60,000 college-aged Christians converged upon the Georgia Dome here for Passion 2013, an annual conference of message and music that not only lifted spirits but raised more than $3.3 million to combat slavery and human trafficking worldwide. To support the event, Camarillo, CA-based Rat Sound Systems provided a sound system that included 108 K1, 96 V-DOSC, 36 KARA and 24 dV-DOSC elements, 40 SB28 sub enclosures, and 31 LA-RAK amplifier racks.
