HONOLULU — Custom Audio supported the audio needs of the NFL for the 2013 Pro Bowl, held at Aloha Stadium here Jan. 27 with an assist from RFvenue.  Along with adverse RF conditions, the rain was heavy enough to warrant a flash flood warning from the National Weather Service for the entire island of Oahu; the game was delayed by a half hour as a result.

NEW ORLEANS — The crews supporting the Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show tried to leave nothing to chance. Along with their own power supply, the halftime show was supported by a wireless system from Sennheiser, provided by ATK Audiotek. Beyoncé’s voice was heard via a custom chrome-finish Sennheiser SKM 5200-II handheld transmitter, topped with an MD 5235 dynamic capsule.

TC Furlong Supports Youth Retreat with Yamaha CL5, CL1 Consoles

ST. CHARLES, IL — Blast 13, a youth group weekend retreat held in late January by Willow Creek Community Church at the Pheasant Run Convention Center here, drew close to 1,400. Chicago-based TC Furlong supported the event with gear including a Yamaha CL5 digital audio console and two Rio3224-D input/output racks at FOH and a CL1 for monitor mixing along with two ProPlex Gigabit switches for network redundancy.

ANAHEIM, CA – At Winter NAMM, the Anaheim Convention Center’s new 100,000-square-foot Grand Plaza featured a Stageline SL320 loaded with Harman gear for acts including Tower of Power, The Living Legends Jam and CTA, among others. Along with a full complement of AKG microphones, the Crown VRack-powered setup included Soundcraft Vi6 and Vi1 consoles, JBL VTX V25 line arrays and S28 subwoofers, VerTec VT4886 and STX812M for frontfill and stage monitors and STX835 speakers and STX818S subwoofers for side fill. MSI and VER provided the gear.

Lady Gaga Hip Injury Forces Cancellation of Born This Way Ball Tour

CHICAGO — After initially postponing four shows Feb. 12, Lady Gaga and Live Nation announced Feb. 13 that, due to the artist’s need for hip surgery, 21 of the shows that had been scheduled as part of her Born This Way Ball tour through March would have to be cancelled. Eighth Day Sound had been supporting the tour with a d&b audiotechnik J Series PA and DiGiCo SD7 consoles for control.

LONDON — The Arts Club, a members-only venue that dates back to 1863, installed Allen & Heath iLive on the recommendation of visiting sound engineer Dave McDonald. Resident house tech Jonathan Lewis had not been familiar with the digital mixing system, but has been won over by it. It’s used along with L-Acoustics speakers at FOH and monitors and Sennheiser IEMs within the small venue.

The installation at the army post’s outdoor venue, Freedom Park’s Returning Home Heroes Amphitheater, includes 112IM and 118Sub-W speakers from One Systems. The newly constructed amphitheater serves injured military personnel, their families, and invited guests for a gamut of events from live music, video playback, speeches, and BBQs.
