Audio Rents Inc. First in U.S. to Take Delivery of JoeCo BBR1MP Recorders

LOS ANGELES — Audio Rents Inc., based here, became the first U.S. company to take delivery of JoeCo‘s BlackBox BBR1MP Recorder. Two systems were delivered in early October and went out the next day to provide a 48-channel recording system with integrated microphone preamps for live recording at the Whisky A Go-Go club in Hollywood, CA. 16 Killed, 11 Injured at K-Pop Concert; Festival Safety Official Takes Own Life

SEONGNAM, South Korea — As a crowd of about 700 gathered Oct. 17 near an outdoor stage featuring different K-pop bands, some spectators hopped over a short wall to stand on a ventilation grate. The grate and 27 spectators fell more than 60 feet to an underground parking area. Fourteen died on site; two others succumbed from injuries later. The remaining 11 were severely injured.

London’s National Theatre Boosts MADI Capacity with Six Optocore DD4MR-FX Converters

LONDON – After reviewing of their playback systems, and to meet a need for higher capacity MADI streams, the National Theatre on London’s South Bank purchased six Optocore DD4MR-FX converters from HD Pro Audio. These have been deployed as MADI interfaces for the venue’s DiGiCo SD7T and SD10T consoles. Project engineer Tim Middleton and senior sound technician Alex Caplen worked on the upgrade. In Memoriam: Consultant Tom Young, 1952 – 2014

OXFORD, CT — Noted acoustical consultant/designer Tom Young, the owner and principal consultant at Connecticut-based Electroacoustic Design Services (EDS), passed away on October 12 of an apparent heart attack. He was 62. His company, EDS specialized in sound reinforcement system design, loudspeaker system measurement and optimization, acoustic design and noise reduction. (Note: He was NOT related to Tom Young, the noted FOH mixer for Tony Bennett.)
