Event Safety Lapses in Romania, China Take Tragic Turns

BUCHAREST, Romania and NANNING, China — A pyro-sparked fire and limited egress turned a 400-capacity nightclub into a deathtrap in Bucharest, Romania. Goodbye to Gravity band members were among the 60 killed and scores injured. Separately, a structural collapse killed a crew member and injured 13 others during setup for a show at the Guangxi Sports Center in Nanning, China that was to feature pop vocalist Jolin Tsai.

LONDON – Theatre Projects named Rob Harris as a key consultant. Harris, a longtime theatre consultant and international auditorium acoustic designer, had previously worked with Theatre Projects’ team members on a variety of projects. Sixty Killed, Scores Injured Pyro-Sparked Nightclub Fire in Romania

BUCHAREST, Romania — A fire sparked by pyro effects during a performance by heavy metal band Goodbye to Gravity ignited foam decor and raced across the ceiling within the crowded Colectiv nightclub at about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 30, filling the venue with smoke and fumes. About 400 people were in the club at the time of the fire. Sixty were killed, including all but one of the band members, according to news reports.
