In Memoriam: Ian Newton, 53

NORTH FERRIBY, U.K. — Noted Monitor engineer Ian Newton passed away suddenly December 18, 2014 of an apparent heart attack. He was 53. Considered by many to be one of the leading practitioners of the art of monitor mixing in the industry, Newton was also well-known for his calm, friendly nature that would put artists at ease. He was on the first-call list for a long list of top artists, including Roger Waters, Barbra Streisand, Sting & The Police, Madonna, Oasis, P!nk, Mariah Carey, Kate Bush and many others.

Hell & Heaven Metal Fest Makes Use of L-Acoustics K1, K2 Systems

MEXICO CITY – For fans of heavy metal, one of the genre’s meccas this fall was Mexico City, which hosted the Corona Hell & Heaven Metal Fest on Oct. 25. Staged at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez racetrack grounds, heavy hitters KISS, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Rob Zombie, Annihilator, Overkill and others took over two adjacent stages appropriately named “Hell” and “Heaven.” The festival marked Mexico’s first combined use of L-Acoustics’ K1 and K2 systems. two of Mexico’s leading sound-reinforcement providers, Procolor and Serpro, provided the gear.
