The Ritz Dances to a Disco Beat on Broadway with Meyer Sound

NEW YORK – When The Ritz returned to Broadway after a 30-year hiatus, the farcical romp vibrated to the 70’s disco beat at Studio 54, once a hot spot for disco-era nightlife in New York City. The historic theatre-turned-nightclub was reconverted to a performance venue by Roundabout Theatre, which recently staged the revival of the 1975 play set in a Manhattan gay bathhouse. Sound designer Tony Meola, who has an extensive list of credits that include Les Misérables and five Wicked productions around the world, created a robust system based on Meyer Sound’s M’elodie ultracompact high power curvilinear array loudspeakers.

LAKEWOOD, NJ A student-run, project-oriented organization at Michigan State University (MSU), the Audio Enthusiasts and Engineers (AEE), have jumped full-force into their ongoing project, Revolution Audio. Through donations from Neutrik USA, designer and manufacturer of the XX series XLR cable connector, along with several other manufacturers, the students are able to begin construction on a high-quality turntable, low-noise RIAA phono stage, a hand-built tube microphone, rebuild several power amps, as well as redesign the universal power supply and the preamp.

Grammy Awards Celebrate 50th Anniversary with Harman Systems

LOS ANGELES – JBL speakers and Crown amplifiers supported an all-star cast for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards Anniversary special. Six-time Grammy-winner Tina Turner joined two-time nominee Beyoncé for a special performance; jazz pianist Eldar, rap-rocker Kid Rock, jazz saxophonist Dave Koz and jazz/pop singer Keely Smith also performed on the telecast.  To present all this talent to the live audience, rental-system contractor ATK/Audiotek (Valencia, Calif.) deployed a multiarray JBL VerTec speaker system; it incorporated 70 full-size VT4889 line array elements temporarily suspended in the Staples Center.

LOS ANGELES – Solid State Logic has announced that two XLogic Delta Link MADI HD units and two MADI/OPTI-COAX Converters played a key equipment linkage role for the Clive Davis Grammy party held Feb. 9, at the Beverly Hilton. Advanced Audio Rentals proavided the systems for use by Recording and Broadcast engineer Gustavo Borner, who mixed the show for MSN Music’s live webcast of the party’s performances, which included the Foo Fighters and Alicia Keys.

Tree of Prosperity Show Blooms at Wynn Macau with Electrosonic Audio

MACAU, CHINA Electrosonic Systems Inc. provided audio, master show control, an intercom system and a closed-circuit video surveillance system for the complex Tree of Propserity Show in the Wynn Macau, which opened in 2006.
