NEW YORK — Celebrating the organization’s 75th anniversary, the 155th Audio Engineering Society Convention took place Oct. 25-27 at New York’s Jacob Javits Convention Center, co-located with the New York NAB show. Attendees were welcomed by 72° weather, clear skies and some interesting new technologies for live applications.

Allen & Heath (www.allen-heath.com) launched its 12-fader Avantis Solo, which packs the punch of the full Avantis, but in a compact frame (see New Gear, this issue, page 15), and the company also showed its CQ series (see Road Test, this issue, page 40).

DiGiCo (www.digico.biz) came on strong with its powerhouse Fourier Audio DSP solution that hosts VST3 plug-ins from a rackmount, Dante-connected transform.engine. (See Technology Spotlight, this issue, page 39.)

Meyer Sound (www.meyersound.com) featured its new generation of point-source loudspeakers, including several models that can connect directly to Milan AVB digital networks.

Sennheiser (www.sennheiser.com) hosted invitation-only educational sessions about WMAS, the new broadband wireless technology currently under development.

Shure (www.shure.com) acquired AB Wavemark Oy, adding WAVETOOL and WTAUTOMIXER V2 automixer apps to its portfolio. Compatible with Shure Axient Digital, ULX-D, SLX-D, Axient Analog and UHF-R receivers (and some third-party brands), WAVETOOL combines mic monitoring and RF quality monitoring into a single, efficient view.

And as part of the AES educational program, Nexonic (www.nexonic-design.com), Sonical (www.sonical.ai) and AntennaWare (www.antennaware.co.uk)  teamed up to support an Ultra Wide Band workshop called “UWB – A New Wireless Tech in the Future of Pro Audio.”
