HOLLYWOOD, FL – Sound Media recently upgraded its system with Powersoft amplifiers, including eight K10 and four K2 models with KDSP and KAESOP cards running in conjunction with Powersoft's Armonia Pro Audio Suite audio control and system monitoring software.
Sound Media owner Lennox Foster chose the Powersoft units after conducting listening tests through his existing inventory, including JBL, Turbosound and MegaForce Tech models. The results, Foster said, were "amazing," citing advantages with sound quality, slew rate and damping factor.
"Our bass and sub-woofer cabinets deliver a thunderous, yet extremely tight bass sound with plenty of headroom to spare, and the musical details reproduced were stunning," Foster said. "Our plan is to purchase an additional 12 K Series amps in the near future."
Foster also commended Powersoft's Model Step-Up card system. "As our power needs increase, the modular design of the amplifier lends itself well to being upgraded in the future," he said, also crediting Powersoft's Armonia software for its power and loudspeaker management capabilities and digital input options with redundancy. "The K Series has the one channel of processing per channel of amplification that we prefer to have in our multifunction amplifier racks. This is all accomplished within one rack space and weighing less than 27 lbs per unit."
Foster also cited hauling and setup advantages, noting that the amplifier racks take up less room in the truck and stack on location. Because of the power efficiency, running AC mains distribution on site is easier, with the added benefit of being able to run a large system in challenging locations.
"We no longer need to haul around and set up external cross over and graphic EQ units with Powersoft amplifiers," Foster noted. "Because the amplifiers take away a lot of the design elements that we used to implement discretely, our setups are easier with uniformly better sound."
