WEDEMARK, Germany – Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG founder Prof. Dr. Fritz Sennheiser passed away May 17, only a few days after his 98th birthday. He founded the company in mid-1945.
Sennheiser has been credited as having a crucial influence on the development of electroacoustics and sound transmission technologies. Under his guidance, the first shotgun microphones and open headphones were created. Sennheiser also oversaw developments in wireless radio and infrared transmission.

Sennheiser was known for giving his developers creative and technical freedom, and also for taking the time to share his knowledge with students. In 1982, he retired from the management of the company, handing over to his son, Prof. Dr. sc. techn. Jörg Sennheiser.

Fritz Sennheiser continued to take a vivid interest in the company, however, and will be remembered for his creativity, curiosity, modesty, self-discipline, sincerity and generosity.
