Valley Family Church Expands with ISP Technologies

KALAMAZOO, MI – Valley Family Church recently completed construction on its new 85,000 square foot addition. AVI/SPL specified a sound system that included ISP Technologies' LLC High Definition line array system.
The non-denominational mega-church started out back in 1991. After some initial growth, the church expanded with a 14-acre site across from a busy mall, and the congregation swelled to 3,000 people.

When Valley Family outgrew this location, the church got started on an $11 million, 1,500 seat facility addition, which includes an open-space sanctuary with stadium-style seating, a stage and two large projection screens.

To ensure that the new sound system provided the clarity, fidelity and mid-range needed in such a large open space, AVI/SPL specified 14 HDL4210 True 4-Way Line array boxes, four XMAX212 subwoofers, three XMAX218, two HDM (High Definition Monitor) 212 boxes and three HDM112 boxes.

The HDL series from ISP Technologies offers a true 4-way design, which splits the mid-range frequency band into a low-mid and high-mid. The 4-way design allows for ample headroom in each band and eliminates the typical intermodulation distortion that occurs with a two or three way line array system.

The end result is clarity and definition with increased headroom in this frequency band. The HDL4210, a powered cabinet with four separate channels of power amplification, has proven to be well suited for the project.

Valley Family Church held four services Nov. 7 and 8 to mark the expansion. "It's been in the works for more than four years and you only have one grand opening, so we planned to make it a celebration to remember," said Beth Jones, co-senior pastor with her husband, Jeff Jones. More than 5,000 people attended the weekend services.

"We could not be happier with our ISP system," said John Thompson, director of media and technology at Valley Family. "Never have I been in a venue that sounds as good as our current sanctuary. I would definitely use ISP again for future projects."
