FALL CITY, WA — The Snoqualmie Valley Alliance Church has been equipped with Electro-Voice EVA (line array) and EVF (front-load) loudspeakers, specified by Jeff Sanderson and Todd Gathany of Onpoint Designs and installed by regional sound company Morgan Sound. The system also features EV’s latest XCS312 cardioid pattern subwoofers. “We came away really impressed with their sonic characteristics,” said Gathany, after becoming acquainted with the gear at a recent trade show.
Though Snoqualmie Valley Alliance Church is housed in an older building, church leaders sought a contemporary ambience on the inside. The design of the sound system for their 400-seat sanctuary helped achieve that goal.
“The sound and appearance of both the church and their band are really important to the client,” said Gathany, “so not only were we looking for a system that sounded excellent, but also one that would complement the interior design. We were able to achieve that with the EVA and EVF speakers. The central EVA line array looks great—clean, hi-tech, but understated—and the EVF hangs on each side look like mini line arrays. The look is right and the sound quality is even better.”
The main system at Snoqualmie starts with a central array of four EVA boxes covering the main floor and balcony with two EVA-2082S/906 (long throw 90° x 6° dispersion) flown over two EVA-2082S/920 (short throw 90° x 20°). That central array is flanked by left and right over/under clusters of horizontally flown EVF boxes: EVF-1152S/64 (60° x 40°) over EVF-1122S/126 (120° x 60°).
“Beyond their inherent sound quality, these speakers did everything we asked them to do from an acoustic perspective during the system design phase,” Gathany said. “Charlie Morgan and Morgan Sound did a superb job installing the system. The speakers’ real-world performance mirrors their predicted performance, and we have plenty of gain before feedback and the headroom to handle all kinds of applications, from services to full-scale rock shows.
“When I met with the music pastor yesterday—a trained musician—I asked him how the system sounds; he said ‘This system sounds absolutely amazing,’” Gathany said. “That’s exactly what we like to hear.”
